Rush satellite site locums!!
As said in another thread, don’t listen to recruiters. The Rush site out in burbs is bad! Will cross cover OB and OR. More than 1:4 planned. Recruiter lied to me (I know it’s their job). Found out through friend network how they plan to work you hard and unsafe (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locum Search
I am looking for suggestions on locum companies to use to help find a good 1-2 week position after graduation to make money to travel while taking the summer off before my permanent job. Does anyone have companies they would advise to use for locums? What is reasonble pay? Thinking 3K a day if consults, but not sure, what is the market rate and if possible as a new grad to get. Any help or suggestions would be welcomed. I see a lot of postings especially thru Weatherby but not sure if they... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Jury Duty
As a solo practitioner summoned for jury duty, have others faced this? Can a judge require service despite a full clinic schedule? If urgent patient care arises, is temporary release from duty possible? Should I book and then cancel the clinic if selected, or preemptively cancel anticipating jury service? Is deferral for arranging a locum tenens common? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locum Cancellation
Hi, I’m relatively new to the locum game. My first big assignment cancelled on me 7 weeks out from the start date. Apparently 20 other docs were similarly informed yesterday. The reasoning given was that the hospital is moving to a direct hire process. It’s not the end of the world, but it is frustrating with the time I have already invested in credentialing process. Thankfully I have other gigs I should be able to fall back on for now. Can any of y’all chime in on how often this situation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

USAP Colorado
The rumor mill has it that the Denver USAPs and maybe others in CO are about to implode due to the FTC lawsuit against USAP. Let’s watch out for locums assignments there. Although Denver is not known for good pay there may be some upcoming good opportunities due to a quick exit of USAP!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

HCA hospitalist
I've heard the horror stories, but what's the truth about working for an HCA hospital as a hospitalist these days? What if it's through a staffing agency rather than HCA itself? The contract looks good and the patient load is OK from what I have been told. Any help would be appreciated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Very small private practice vs locums to maintain clinical experience?
I’m >5 years out of psych residency and extremely burned out, made a job change last year in hopes of improvement though have ended up even more crispy. I’m planning to discuss going part time with my current supervisor but I anticipate the answer will be no so I am working on my contingency plan. I’d like to take a significant break before jumping back in, and want to maintain some clinical experience while I’m sorting things out. I think it’s feasible to start a private practice, with goal... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What ’s happening in Memphis
I’ve noticed a huge surge in locums postings for Memphis. One states they need 15 FTEs. Does anyone know what is going on and/or have information on both what group(s) lost their place and which of the PE monstrosities is taking over? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Got fired by locums within 10 minutes for requesting the ED physician to not admit patient before being assessed
Hello, I got a signout from an ED physician re: admission for diagnosis that can be easily treated as outpatient based on national guidelines. While on phone, ED physician replied to my request to hold patient until seen to assess if admission appropriate with "no no no no no. You don't have a choice, the patient was already admitted. do you know who I am? I am the director... I am your superior." Told him that he can't force another physician to care for another patient or a hospitalist to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Small dose precedex on induction?
The place I'm currently doing locums at many of the MDs and crnas give a small dose (16-24) of precedex on induction. No infusion, for short and long cases. I use precedex for infusions for TIVAs, wakeups in drug addicts or people who look like they're going to be bucking broncos. I think it's somewhat institutional, but the usual response I get is to decrease opioid use but I don't see this and it clinically doesn't make sense given the dose/length of surgery. What is this providing? Is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
