Where can I find IM RVUs?
Wanted to do some calculations on locums rates... I have some examples from radiology, but wanted some respective numbers from IM Let's say you are going to get $2500 for the "day". You need to do enough work to justify that. Currently, Medicare pays about $36 for each professional RVU. This covers the labor cost. $2500/$36 = 69 RVU 69 RVU is a doable day of work. What does this translate to? -CXRs are worth 0.22 RVU for the professional component. So this is about 313 CXRs. If you are... Where can I find IM RVUs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Which AMC or Locum company is vulnerable in this economy
Covid 19 has caused hospitals to cancel elective surgeries for months. Further patients are scared to have to come to the hospital for elective procedure. Will this demand destruction cause deflation in health related spending? Will hospitals that have marginal balance sheets be forced to cut back on expensive Locum companies? Which AMC have the most debt and are vulnerable to further cut backs from hospitals. How long can the Locum companies survive if elective surgeries demand does... Medicine is not for me, what do I do now
I'm a second year student. During first year I had my struggles, but I generally enjoyed what I was learning and felt excited for the future. Slowly over the second semester things started changing for me and by the end of second semester I could barely read two sentences in my textbooks before having a full blown panic attack. I barely passed my classes. I went into medical school wanting to do family med and after residency locum tenens work. I always had the optimistic outlook that... Locums jobs in Australia/New Zealand
Anyone ever receive locums inquiries about jobs down under? Curious what they pay. Thinking of trying to do it for a couple of years but unsure if my debt burden will allow for it. Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Locum Tenens and sign on bonuses
Hi, all! Do sign-on bonuses and loan repayment bonuses exist when hired out of residency with Locum Tenens agencies? Alternatively, is it common for hospitals to offer sign on bonuses if you are hired as an independent contractor rather than as an employee of the hospital? Thank you! Anyone ever think to start their own locums company?
Was thinking about this the other day. What's the problem with a spouse or partner starting a locums company, picking up contracts and using you, the physician, to fill those spots? This would allow you to keep the entire rate the hospital pays the locums company. If it's a spouse you could far undercut other locum providers since you'd be pocketing the entire amount anyways. Too crazy to work? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Tail vs Incurred But Not Reported for Locum Tenens???
I was looking to do some locums work as an anesthesiologist for Xenon Health. Normally I request tail coverage so that I won't be stuck with $15-20k for coverage as a prerequisite for other health insurance or jobs in the future. Their insurance policy doesn't provide tail but provide Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) coverage. As I understand it, insurance is covered as long as Xenon has an active policy even after a provider ends their contract with Xenon. Then if Xenon decides to... Is internal medicine/family medicine better than a more specialized field?
I'm wondering if pursuing an internal medicine or family medicine residency afford you with more "transferable skills" or a better point of leverage over pursuing a more specialized residency (e.g. psychiatry, pediatrics, etc.). I know it all depends on what the person wants to do career-wise, but what about from the perspective of jobs like Locums, urgent care job placements, etc.; basically, those broad spectrum healthcare jobs. Do they prefer someone with an internal medicine/family... Is internal medicine/family medicine better than a more specialized field? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What hospitals pay locums compared
I overheard a rumor at my hospital recently that the 1 week (7 day week x 12 hours per day) cost for a locums psychiatrist is $30K, paid to the locums company. If the doc gets $200/hour it’s $16,800. Over $13,000 to the locums company. For one week. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hospitalist Job Search Adivce
I will be applying for hospitalist positions later this year and wondering what is the best way to approach this. Questions: 1. Should I call/email the individual hospitals in my desired area and ask about position availabilities? Should I attach my CV onto these initial emails? 2. Should I use a recruiter or staffing agency to help me obtain a spot? From my understanding, the recruiter does not take any money from me, but gets money from the hospital if I agree to sign with the... Hospitalist Job Search Adivce (Source: Student Doctor Network)
