Ethical decision making
I live in a small community and my practice has a major focus on autism. I was recently contacted by someone in the community that I know about therapy services partly about her adult son with autism. She has tried to find services in the past, but couldn’t find anyone with the specific knowledge on autism. This person was my mortgage lender 20 years ago. I met with her twice to sign paperwork, which I barely remember. We were at a coffee together in the community 8 years ago and sat next... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Job Accommodations while in Clinical Role
As a clinical and forensic psychiatrist, I'm aware of the ethical implications of the two contrasting roles. Some of my patients look to me, often influenced by other people (e.g., primary psychotherapists), to weigh in on workplace accommodations. Am I being overly strict to hesitate about these, considering them as amounting to opinions about disability? I usually inform them that they can request the accommodations themselves without my input and refer them to JAN - Job Accommodation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Research ethics: was this unprofessional of me?
I submitted a poster after getting edits from the faculty attendings. The plan was to submit the poster to a journal (letter to editor style, short text). I did not even change the text of the poster and submitted it as such based on previous email correspondence. One attending responded, but the other did not. It is the one that did not who was frustrated after the fact that I never sent a formal draft for approval (the other attending did not care). Again, the text was unchanged from... Am I ok taking comlex in 2 days?
I have the comlex in 2 days and usmle in 7 days. I did 3000 uworld questions. 3 NBME. 2 COMSAE. Comsae: School offered 1: 430 School offered 2: 530 NBME 25: 71% 26: 73% 28: 77% Uworld Avg: 60% (80% completion) I only did uworld. I didn't do truelearn at all. I'm worried about OMT/Ethics questions and with only 2 days away, should I trust that I'll pass from the comsae's alone? I'm more worried about COMLEX than USMLE (since if I fail usmle, I won't report it but if I fail comlex, I'm... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

any one with similar experience
I am doing my neuro residency. This program is mostly filled with FMGs, cos no american can stand this program due to its work ethics. anyways, I was threatened by my PD saying that if i complain, he would ruin life by messing with my fellowship & license application. He keeps pulling that trump card on other FMGs resident also, and we are not able to do anything abt it. any advice? Cos I know the hospital will support him cos we are expendable. we feel like slaves. He even prepared us for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Offering to a letter writer to write a letter for them?
A friend of mine who recently matriculated into a med school told me to propose to a writer to let me write a working draft for their letter for them to edit and modify to send their letter over to Interfolio. I have a good working relationship with this letter writer and he says it might be a good and fair thing to bring up because the letter writer is a busy person and writing a working draft can help save them a lot of time if they're supportive about the idea. What's the ethicality of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ethics of Shadowing
Two physicians I have shadowed have allowed me to go into the patient's room before them to discuss their reason for being here and then I would relay that information to the physician. Is this technically allowed? Specifically asking because I wanted to talk about a time I roomed a patient in my native language for the first time in my personal statement. How do you get better at Uworld?
I'm 30% done with UWORLD and I haven't gotten any better. It's not that I'm not reviewing.... But it's more like just about every UWorld Question tests concepts that is rarely tested again.....so far in my 30% completion. So how is it that anyone can improve UWorld scores if each question is a totally different concept with very few overlaps (except stuff like ethics, statistics, and stuff). Resignation notice
I was informed that a notice period of 90 days is expected when resigning, however, I believe that this is more of an ethical expectation rather than a legal requirement. In my opinion, a notice period of 60 days should be sufficient. I would appreciate any advice on how to handle this process in a respectful and professional manner. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ethical Concern - Referrals in an "informal" private practice
Hello everyone! I am a newly licensed psychologist in California, and I have recently begun working with (for?) another psychologist (let's call him Dave) that I met through my post-doc. Dave runs a private practice, but it's not a group practice in the traditional sense - it works as if we are all independent contractors to his business. Kinda? Here's where I'm a little confused on the situation: Dave basically rents a suite of offices that we all use - he pays for these directly. We do... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
