Is Walmart the biggest threat facing primary care?
Walmart is experimenting with opening primary care clinics. Although they say they’re focusing on rural areas, I bet they’ll try to expand into urban areas if they can show it’s profitable. I am against this. Although I love Walmart and am appreciative for them giving me my first job out of high school and for offering me low prices on everyday items, I am a firm believer that healthcare should not be run by for profit corporations. There are ethical issues, such as running too many tests... Is Walmart the biggest threat facing primary care? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Current healthcare & policy related questions for Med school interview
Hey guys, I am preparing for my upcoming medical school interview. What are some of the important current health care policies, events, and medical ethics that we should know about for the interview? For those that got questions like these, how did they ask them? Any input would be appreciated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Getting paid to be a boards patient ethical?
I'm a first year who just happened to have a class II, and that allowed me to qualify to be a fourth year's boards patient. I'm sure for them, it relieved a lot of stress off their back in terms of securing a hopefully reliable patient. They offered to pay me a little bit of money for my time. I heard some people saying that there are ethical issues with the idea of paying for patients. Would it be unethical for me to accept the payment for being their patient? How is CVS not a monopoly??
Just curious to see thoughts here. With every acquisition, I seriously wonder how the government can allow CVS to continue without being considred a monopoly? Is it really ethical to have one company own a large majority of the nation's pharmacy locations (and keep buying up more and more little guys along the way), but then also be Caremark/ESI and acquire Aetna? What loopholes is this satanic company using? The persuasion of $$$ ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Paranoid? Amazon Gift Cards
A number of ABPN sponsored CME companies sponsor free Amazon gift cards when you purchase their CME service. Most hospitals provide $1000-$5000 yearly for CME. I've been very reluctant to purchase services that offer the Amazon gift cards since it seems like "Robbing Peter to pay Paul." In short, the hospital pays $2000 for my CME service, but then I would get $1000 free towards Amazon. Is this ethical? Anyone purchase these CME services? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help with class choice for upward trend and future success.
I have taken introductory biology I and II and because of my poor ethic as a freshman, got a B in both. I have since improved and received an A in biochem I and will shoot for an A next semester in biochem II. Should I consider taking Molecular and Cell Bio I and II to bolster my application(and improve my biology understanding). I am already taking Genetics and will take Microbio and A&P I as well. Or should I focus on higher level electives such as histology, immunology, etc? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Handshake rules?
Hello everyone. This might be a really weird question but still. So, I am from a country with a specific business ethics that states that when two persons meet each other for a business conversation/interview/whatever they obviously shall give each other a handshake. However, if the person you are meeting with is higher in rank than you, he/she must give you a hand first (in more conservative areas this also applies if you meet with someone older than you). It is deeply unethical if you are... Handshake rules? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Calling CVS Ethics hotline
I work for CVS at a moderate volume store in the city, we used to have 150 tech hours at the beginning of this year. Now we are down to 80-90 hours, during Thanksgiving week it was in the 60s. I know other stores in the district have less volume than us but 50 + more tech hours. The current DM didn't like the previous PIC, although the new PIC is fantastic. The techs range from very good to mediocre. The store has become an absolute mess, we have 10 plus pages in the red. At one point it... Calling CVS Ethics hotline (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is it okay to be relax during my gap year before medical school? Parents worry that it will harm my work ethic when medical school starts. Need advice
For my whole life, I have never really had a long "break". Every summer was work or study and then 2 weeks where I follow my parents on a sightseeing trip. My parents never really believed in the concept of a "break" hence I never really had a summer break. I have currently been accepted to multiple US MD medical schools so far and am currently waiting to hear back from my dream school in March. During this time, I have taken on a job as a MCAT instructor where I work 4 days a week. Asides... Is it okay to be relax during my gap year before medical school? If modifier 25 is slashed, ethical implications
Anecdotally some dermatologists I've talked to would set up a separate "procedure only day." Many PCPs in my area who perform biopsies already schedule separate "procedure visits" for biopsies. This has the following ethical considerations: 1. Patients may need to take extra time off work (2 days instead of 1 day). 2. While most would (probably correctly) argue that delaying a biopsy by <5 days would have negligible risk on progression of a suspected skin cancer, would this result in an...
