Fastest growing industry in america right now?
Marijuana. Just saying. time to think about EXIT strategies, efforts to extend your education, increase your knowledge, branch to other areas of pharmacy, get licensed in 50 states...etc. all futile at this point in my opinion. The industry is tanking as a whole. no matter what your ethical and moral principles are about marijuana/thc/cbd...etc. its booming man...and its money. Someone is going to sell it and everyone is going to use it. I see mushrooms coming down the pipe soon too... Fastest growing industry in america right now? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Adversity Essay Question
Hi All! I am working on my secondaries and am having some issues with the "overcame a challenge" style of prompt. I know the adversity essay would fit well here, but challenge can refer to anything right? For example, my current idea was to write about how I helped socialize a rabbit that was going to be sent to a kill-shelter with a deadline, what that experience taught me about perseverance, patience, and how it affected my work ethic etc. I know this is not a personal adversity... "Observed something unethical" Secondary Essay Prompt
Hi I'm trying to write a response to a prompt that asks me to describe a situation in which I observed something in ethical, what my response was, and what I would do differently. I want to talk about a situation where I saw a doctor do something that I thought was unethical (disrespectful to a patient's culture), but I don't want to seem like I'm passing judgment on a doctor/acting like an expert when I'm just a lowly pre-med. At the same time, I didn't do anything in response to the... "Observed something unethical" Secondary Essay Prompt (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are volunteers ethically allowed to do this?
I volunteer at a free medical clinic for low income and uninsured individuals. My position is in the back office, where we call patients in from the waiting room to interview them and record basic vitals in their chart before they see the doctor. I ask the patient's birthdate to confirm, then take height, weight, blood pressure (automatic), temperature, and record respiratory rate. On rarer occasions I do finger pricks to test blood sugar for diabetic patients, or ask female OBGYN patients a... Are volunteers ethically allowed to do this? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non-medical work experiences on CV for residency applications
During my gap year between grad school and medical school I worked for a rideshare company as a side job. My primary job was a scribe in an ER (worked at least 36 up to 72 hours a week for scribing and average around 20/week for rideshare). I am wondering if the benefit of demonstrating work ethic with rideshare is significant, or if it is a waste of space on my CV or not considered a good thing by PDs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NY Times Article: Doctors And Nurses Are Ethical, Hospital Administrators Exploit That To Make Money
Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but the author nails it on the head that the business of health care depends on exploiting the food will and ethics of physician and nurses. The only thing I disagree with is that hospital administrators do it inadvertently. I think they are very smart, know exactly what they are doing and do it willfully and calculatingly. I think they view physician good will ethical commitment to their patients as a resource like any other, that can be manipulated to... Pharmacists, we learned this in school
Ethical billing. I understand physicians and their business needs money to fund the remodeling of their offices and their luxury homes/cars. But as a pharmacist, I have the background knowledge from pharmacy school about CPT code billing frauds to cheat the medicare system (and private insurances). With that said, I want to discuss upcoding. I was a victim of upcoding. Doctors are not allowed to charge for time visits that they didnt not spend in the room with the patient. I was in... finishing up post-doc and having a mini panic attack about law and ethics exam
So long story short everything has been falling into place. It's my last week of post-doc, EPPP is passed, and I submitted my hours to the CA board of psychology....just waiting on confirmation to take the Law and Ethics Exam (CPLEE). For some reason I JUST realized that if I fail I have to wait 3 F**ING months to re-take it....which would be incredibly bad. I would have to post-pone job applications and probably do the whole psych assistant thing. I wasn't too worried before ( I hear CPLEE... finishing up post-doc and having a mini panic attack about law and ethics exam (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Specialty board certification process - Ethical issues
I am surprised there isn't more discussion about the board certification process. To me, if you have to delay a patient's treatment to create that perfect board case, then it's unethical. We talked about it all the time in dental school when we have to save a patient's class II lesion or calculus for regional boards. Prosthodontics specialty boards is known for being unethical for this reason, where treatment can be prolonged to make that perfect impression or duplicating casts...
