Mechanical, structural, and morphological differences in the iliac arteries
We examined 33 arterial specimens from common iliac (CI), external iliac (EI), and internal iliac (II) arteries obtained from 11 human donors (62 ± 12 years). We conducted morphometric, mechanical, and structural analyses using planar biaxial tests, constitutive modeling, and bi-directional histology on transverse and axial sections. The iliac arteries exhibited increased tortuosity and varying disease distribution with age. CI and II arteries displayed non-uniform age-related disease progression around their circumference, while EI remained healthy even in older individuals. Trends in load-free and stress-free thickness ...

Cutting-Edge Developments in MXene-Derived Functional Hybrid Nanostructures: A Promising Frontier for Next-Generation Water Purification Membranes
This article provides a current explanation of the design and performance assessment of MXene-based membranes. The production of MXenes nanosheets are first described, with an emphasis on exfoliation, dispersion stability, and processability, which are essential elements for membrane construction. Further, critical discussion is also given to MXenes potential applications in Vacuum assisted filtration, casting method, Hot press method, electrospinning and electrochemical deposition and layer-by-layer assembly for the creation of MXene and MXene derived nanocomposite membranes. Additionally, the discussion is carried forwar...

Prosthetic framework improvement using lattice structure: A comparative finite element study of a mandibular implant-supported prosthesis
CONCLUSION: Compared to conventional titanium framework, the lattice prosthetic one appeared to be more respectful of the natural mandible kinematics, given by the reference model. It also resulted in strain values within the physiological loading range.PMID:38608345 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106538 (Source: Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials)

Pretreatment Brain White Matter Integrity Associated With Neuropathic Pain Relief and Changes in Temporal Summation of Pain Following Ketamine
Neuropathic pain (NP) is a prevalent condition often associated with heightened pain responsiveness suggestive of central sensitization. Neuroimaging biomarkers of treatment outcomes may help develop personalized treatment strategies, but white matter (WM) properties have been underexplored for this purpose. Here we assessed whether WM pathways of the default mode network (DMN: medial prefrontal cortex [mPFC], posterior cingulate cortex, and precuneus) and descending pain modulation system (periaqueductal gray [PAG]) are associated with ketamine analgesia and attenuated temporal summation of pain (TSP, reflecting central s...
