RSS and ROS Sequentially Activated Carbon Monoxide Release for Boosting NIR Imaging ‐Guided On‐Demand Photodynamic Therapy
A RSS and ROS sequentially activated CO delivery system is developed for boosting NIR imaging-guided on-demand photodynamic therapy. Such designed nanoplatform can be specifically activated by H2S with simultaneous release of CO donor and NIR fluorescence, also depleting H2S in the process. Then, under long-wavelength light irradiation, nanoplatform could generate1O2, enabling both PDT and precise local release of CO via a photooxidation mechanism. Cytotoxicity and in vivo tumor inhibition experiments demonstrate that the CO release and endogenous H2S depletion during this process together boosted PDT efficacy, achieving s...

Identifying complementary and alternative medicine recommendations for anxiety treatment and care: a systematic review and critical assessment of comprehensive clinical practice guidelines
ConclusionAvailable guidelines are limited in providing logically explained graded CAM recommendations for anxiety treatment and care. A lack of high-quality evidence and multidisciplinary consultation during the guideline development are two major reasons. High quality and reliable clinical evidence and the engagement of a range of interdisciplinary stakeholders are needed for future CPG development and updating.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42022373694, identifier CRD42022373694. The effect of a helmet type, home-use low-level light therapy device for chemotherapy-induced alopecia: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
This study determines the efficacy of low-level light therapy for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced hair loss for patients with breast cancer using a randomized controlled trial.METHODS: One hundred six eligible breast cancer patients were randomly distributed into a low-level light therapy group and a control group, after receiving chemotherapy. Subjects in the low-level light therapy group received 12 courses of intervention within 4 weeks. Subjects in the control group received no intervention but were closely monitored. The primary outcome is measured as the difference in the hair count in a target area between th...

The European Insomnia Guideline: An update on the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia 2023
J Sleep Res. 2023 Dec;32(6):e14035. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14035.ABSTRACTProgress in the field of insomnia since 2017 necessitated this update of the European Insomnia Guideline. Recommendations for the diagnostic procedure for insomnia and its comorbidities are: clinical interview (encompassing sleep and medical history); the use of sleep questionnaires and diaries (and physical examination and additional measures where indicated) (A). Actigraphy is not recommended for the routine evaluation of insomnia (C), but may be useful for differential-diagnostic purposes (A). Polysomnography should be used to evaluate other sleep disord...

The influence of growth medium on the photodynamic susceptibility of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans to antimicrobial blue light
AbstractThe aim of this study was to investigate whether antimicrobial blue light (aBL) can cause the death ofAggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A.a) and to determine the influence of different culture media, specifically brain heart infusion and blood agar, on bacterial survival fraction. An LED emitting at 403  ± 15 nm, with a radiant power of 1W, irradiance of 588.2 mW/cm2, and an irradiation time of 0  min, 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, 30 min, and 60 min, was used. The plates were incubated in microaerophilic conditions at 37 °C for 48 h, and the colony-forming units were counted. The photosensitizers were ...

Effects of chronotype-tailored bright light intervention on post-treatment symptoms and quality of life in breast cancer survivors
ConclusionThe findings support using light therapy to manage post-treatment symptoms in breast cancer survivors. The unexpected symptom improvements among dim-red light controls remain unexplained and require further investigation.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03304587, October 19, 2017. Increased functional connectivity between the midbrain and frontal cortex following bright light therapy in subthreshold depression: A randomized clinical trial
Am Psychol. 2023 Nov 16. doi: 10.1037/amp0001218. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe underlying mechanisms of bright light therapy (BLT) in the prevention of individuals with subthreshold depression symptoms are yet to be elucidated. The goal of the study was to assess the correlation between midbrain monoamine-producing nuclei treatment-related functional connectivity (FC) changes and depressive symptom improvements in subthreshold depression. This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted between March 2020 and June 2022. A total of 74 young adults with subthreshold depression were randomly...
