Elucidation of Pain Mechanisms in Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by painful scarring abscesses, nodules, and draining tunnels in intertriginous skin. Despite being the most impactful symptom of HS and contributing to disability and chronic opioid use, HS pain remains critically understudied. Most patients with HS report pain severe enough to limit function and activities of daily living. In a global survey including more than 1900 patients, 61.4% rated their recent HS-related pain as moderate to high and 4.5% described it as the worst pain possible. Patients with HS experience dramatically reduced quality of l...

Comorbidity in patients with Lichen sclerosus: a retrospective cohort study
This study confirmed the association between LS and vulvar cancer (OR = 17.4; 95% CI 12.1-25.3), penis cancer (OR = 9.1; 95% CI 4.3-18.9), prostate cancer (OR = 2.0; 95% CI 1.6-2.4) and breast cancer (OR = 1.6; 95% CI 1.4-1.8). LS was also associated with Crohn´s disease (OR = 2.0; 95% CI 1.6-2.6) and diabetes mellitus type 1 (OR = 1.9; 95% CI 1.6-2.1). The present study revealed novel important data regarding the association of LS with cancer and autoimmune diseases, emphasising the importance of sufficient treatment and follow-up of patients with LS. However, future studies are needed to confirm these results and the po...

Long ‐term consequences of juvenile vulvar lichen sclerosus: A cohort study of adults with a histologically confirmed diagnosis in childhood or adolescence
ConclusionsSymptoms due to VLS are reported by most adults diagnosed as juveniles. QoL and sexuality are affected and correlate to recent symptoms. VLS as a juvenile does not preclude a vaginal delivery. Women diagnosed with VLS in childhood or adolescence are often lost to follow-up. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

The urinary, vaginal and gut microbiota in women with genital lichen sclerosus - A case-control study
CONCLUSION: In this study, we demonstrated several differences amongst less abundant bacteria in the urinary, lower vaginal and faecal microbiota when comparing women with LS to controls. However, further research is required to assess whether these microbiota differences are causative or merely a result of the underlying LS disease.PMID:37591024 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.08.004 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

The urinary, vaginal and gut microbiota in women with genital lichen sclerosus - a case-control study
Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a chronic, autoimmune skin disease predominantly located in the anogenital region in women. In recent years, the role of the human microbiota in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, including LS, has received interest. Vulvar lichen sclerosus et atrophicus: Refractory to standard therapy
Thasneem S Luqman, Akshay Kalavant, KS Sunil Kumar, AR SwathyJournal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons 2023 28(4):345-347 Vulvar lichen sclerosus et atrophicus is an inflammatory disease which can affect the pediatric age group, although rarely. Its prevalence is underestimated. It may have genital or extragenital manifestations. If left untreated, it may progress to complications which hamper the quality of life. The treatment of choice is topical clobetasol propionate. Here, we present a case of prepubertal vulvar LS, which was refractory to topical clobetasol but responded to topical tacrolimus application. Pregnancy, parturition and postpartum considerations among patients with vulvar lichen sclerosus: A retrospective cross-sectional online survey
CONCLUSION: In this online survey, we found reported symptom severity remained unchanged or decreased during pregnancy, but increased postpartum. Use of topical corticosteroids decreased during pregnancy compared with before and after pregnancy. Half of the respondents reported anxiety regarding VLS and delivery.PMID:37424180 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17601 (Source: BJOG : An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology)
