A large sample-based case-control study of related risk factors of two types of lichenoid vulvar disease (LVD)
Lichenoid vulvar dermatoses (LVD) present a kind of chronic inflammatory disease, and the most common clinical symptom of LVD is vulvar pruritus or pain. LVD include vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS), lichen planus and vulvar lichen simplex chronicus (VLSC)[1]. Therefore, as the two most common types, VLS and VLSC are important part of LVD in clinic. Studies have shown that these VLS and VLSC are similar in histopathology, disease progression, clinical manifestation and natural outcome[2]. However, VLS and VLSC have their own characteristic manifestations, and their differential diagnosis is of great significance for the treat...

The Novel Use of Bipolar Radiofrequency Microneedling in the Treatment of Lichen Sclerosus
CONCLUSION: Radiofrequency with microneedling treatments for persistent LS showed significant improvement in LS symptoms. As LS is a chronic recurring condition, the treatment protocol resulted in high patient satisfaction for these women who had not experienced these results in terms of amount of symptom resolution or duration of symptom resolution with prior treatments using topical steroid cream or other modalities.PMID:38038180 (Source: Surgical Technology International)

The vulvar microbiome in lichen sclerosus and high-grade intraepithelial lesions
ConclusionThis study is the first to examine the vulvar microbiome through metagenomic shotgun sequencing in LS and HSIL patients. Diseased vulvar skin presents a distinct signature compared to healthy vulvar skin with respect to bacterial and viral fractions of the microbiome. Key findings include the presence of papillomaviruses in LS as well as in vulvar HSIL, although LS is generally considered an HPV-independent risk factor for vulvar dysplasia. This exploratory study provides clues to the etiology of vulvar premalignancies and may act as a steppingstone for expanding the knowledge on potential drivers of disease prog...

41 Photodynamic therapy using nano-encapsulated peptides in the complex treatment of anogenital lichen sclerosus
Introduction: Lichen sclerosus is an anogenital autoimmune inflammatory dermatosis,a variant of limited scleroderma. The disease manifests by unbearable anogenital itching, pain, dysuria, dyspareunia in both women and men.Photodynamic therapy are being standardized with new sensitizer containing 5-aminolevulinic acid nanopeptide complex. The complex induces protoporphyrin IX in the skin cell mitochondria. The latter releases singlet oxygen under red-light radiation that destroys collagen in the skin lesion.
