Factors influencing the composition of fatty acids in erythrocyte membranes in Latvian pregnant women
Rationale: Dietary fats are essential for maternal and fetal health during pregnancy [1]. Determination of fatty acids in erythrocytes characterizes the fatty acid profile, which is influenced by diet, age, ethnicity, genetics and endogenous metabolism, BMI, health status, lifestyle factors and other factors [2]. The aim of the study is to evaluate the relationship between fatty acid parameters in erythrocyte membrane phospholipids and their influencing factors: food products and supplements, BMI, and lifestyle factors in Latvian pregnant women. A systematic literature review of the effectiveness of tick-borne encephalitis vaccines in Europe
CONCLUSIONS: Published VE studies demonstrate a high real-world effectiveness of the commercially available TBE vaccines in Europe. Although cases averted have been estimated in only four countries, TBE vaccination prevents thousands of cases in Europe each year. To prevent life-threatening TBE, TBE vaccine uptake and compliance with the vaccination schedule should be increased in residents of, and travelers to, TBE-endemic countries in Europe.PMID:37858450 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.10.014 (Source: Vaccine)

Prenatal ultrasound screening and congenital anomalies at birth by region: Pattern and distribution in Latvia
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study showed a statistically significant association between the rate of foetal anomalies and the frequency of prenatal examinations. A higher average number of US examinations per pregnancy was observed in the rural regions. Regional variations exist in the rates of specific congenital anomalies. Further studies are recommended in this field for better understanding. Surveillance systems that are able to analyse the efficiency of US examinations need to be developed for the early prenatal detection of congenital anomalies.PMID:37771958 | PMC:PMC10522966 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100242 (...
