First-site-metastasis pattern in patients with inoperable stage  III NSCLC treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy with or without immune check-point inhibition: a retrospective analysis
ConclusionThis retrospective analysis of inoperable stage  III NSCLC patients revealed that age over 65, V20 ≥ 30 and GTV ≥ 78 cc were prognosticators for BMFS and GTV ≥ 78 cc for ecDMFS. ICI treatment led to a significant improvement of BMFS, ecDMFS and DMFS. ecDM as FSMP was associated with significant deterioration of OS, whereas BM as FSMP was not. Satisfaction with radiotherapy care among cancer patients treated in Germany —secondary analysis of a large multicenter study
ConclusionOverall patient satisfaction with radiotherapy care was high across 11  centers in Germany. Determinants of patient satisfaction were tumor entity, treating center, and quality of life. Although these data are exploratory, they may inform other centers and future efforts to maintain high levels of patient satisfaction with radiotherapy care. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Comparison of patient setup accuracy for optical surface-guided and  X-ray-guided imaging with respect to the impact on intracranial stereotactic radiotherapy
ConclusionIn order to achieve the necessary geometric accuracy in cranial stereotactic radiotherapy, use of an X ‑ray-based IGRT system, especially when treating with non-coplanar couch angles, is highly recommended. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Osthole inhibits GSK-3 β/AMPK/mTOR pathway-controlled glycolysis and increases radiosensitivity of subcutaneous transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma in nude mice
ConclusionOsthole has a  radiosensitizing effect on subcutaneous transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma, and its mechanism may be related to inhibition of GSK-3β/AMPK/mTOR pathway-controlled glycolysis. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

The impact of submandibular glands protection on xerostomia as monitored by diffusion-weighted imaging in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients
ConclusionsSMG protection has a  great impact on the functional retention of PGs and SLGs, resulting in alleviating xerostomia and improving quality of life.Trial registrationThe clinical trial was also registered with the Chinese Clinical Study Registry (registered number: ChiCTR1900024328, Date: July  6, 2019; URL:https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.aspx?proj=40726) (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Oncologic treatment support via a  dedicated mobile app: a prospective feasibility evaluation (OPTIMISE-1)
ConclusionPatients showed high acceptance, with 79.6% (n = 39) completing at least 80% of the given items. The use of a mobile app for reporting symptoms and quality of life during RT is feasible and well accepted by patients. It may allow for resource-efficient, detailed feedback to the medical staff and assist in the assessment of side effects ove r time. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Radiation therapy of breast cancer in the Nahe Breast Center: first results of an analysis in the context of health services research
ConclusionThe results of radiotherapy for breast carcinoma at the Nahe Breast Center are comparable to published national and international results. In particular, the local recurrence rates in our study, determined absolutely and actuarially, are excellent, and demonstrate the usefulness of radiotherapy. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Extranodal nasal-type NK/T lymphoma treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy: case series from a  European tertiary referral center and review of the literature
ConclusionPatients with bilateral lymph node involvement and/or high EBV viral load have a  significant recurrence rate despite multimodal therapy. These results need to be confirmed by larger studies. Given the high rate of local recurrence within radiotherapy fields, the value of dose escalation should be considered. Patients at risk of relapse should be included in dedicated trials. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Successful implementation of online educational lectures of the German Society for Radiation Oncology (DEGRO)
ConclusionThe DEGRO webinar expands the digital teaching opportunities in radiation oncology. The consistently high number of participants confirms the need for high-quality teaching and underlines the advantages of e ‑learning methods. Optimization opportunities were identified through reevaluation of feedback from course participants. In its design as a teaching format for a multiprofessional audience, the webinar series could be used as a practice model of online teaching for other disciplines. High-LET charged particles: radiobiology and application for new approaches in radiotherapy
AbstractThe number of patients treated with charged-particle radiotherapy as well as the number of treatment centers is increasing worldwide, particularly regarding protons. However, high-linear energy transfer (LET) particles, mainly carbon ions, are of special interest for application in radiotherapy, as their special physical features result in high precision and hence lower toxicity, and at the same time in increased efficiency in cell inactivation in the target region, i.e., the tumor. The radiobiology of high-LET particles differs with respect to DNA damage repair, cytogenetic damage, and cell death type, and their i...
