Is consolidative thoracic radiotherapy of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer still beneficial in the era of immunotherapy? A  retrospective analysis
ConclusionTR was significantly associated with longer OS. The survival benefit of TR was most pronounced for consolidative radiotherapy after initial chemoimmunotherapy compared to TR in case of progression. Although retrospective findings need to be interpreted with caution, in the absence of prospective data, our findings provide a  basis for offering consolidative TR in the era of chemoimmunotherapy. Radiosurgery for ventricular tachycardia (RAVENTA): interim analysis of a  multicenter multiplatform feasibility trial
ConclusionThe interim analysis of the RAVENTA trial demonstrates early initial feasibility of this new treatment without serious complications within 30  days after treatment in five patients. Recruitment will continue as planned and the study has been expanded to further university medical centers.Trial registration numberNCT03867747 (clinicaltrials.gov). Registered March  8, 2019. Study start: October 1, 2019. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Robustness analysis of surface-guided DIBH left breast radiotherapy: personalized dosimetric effect of real intrafractional motion within the beam gating thresholds
ConclusionThe DIBH technique proved to be robust against residual intrafractional isocenter shifts allowed by the selected SGRT beam-hold thresholds. Small-volume OARs located near high dose gradients showed significant marginal deteriorations in the perturbed plans with the 3DCRT technique only. Global plan quality was mainly influenced by patient anatomy and treatment beam geometry rather than the technique adopted. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Effect of radiotherapy on the DNA cargo and cellular uptake mechanisms of extracellular vesicles
AbstractIn the past decades, plenty of evidence has gathered pointing to the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by irradiated cells in the development of radiation-induced non-targeted effects. EVs are complex natural structures composed of a  phospholipid bilayer which are secreted by virtually all cells and carry bioactive molecules. They can travel certain distances in the body before being taken up by recipient cells. In this review we discuss the role and fate of EVs in tumor cells and highlight the importance of DNA specimens in E Vs cargo in the context of radiotherapy. The effect of EVs depends on their...

Modulation of tumor-associated macrophage activity with radiation therapy: a  systematic review
ConclusionTAMs seem to have an ambivalent role on the efficacy of cancer treatment. Radiation therapy, which exerts its main antitumor activity via cell killing, can in turn interfere with TAM characterization through different modalities. The plasticity of TAMs makes them an attractive target for anticancer therapies and more research should be conducted to explore this potential therapeutic strategy.
