Effect of simultaneous integrated boost concepts on photoneutron and distant out-of-field doses in VMAT for prostate cancer
ConclusionFor a  complete treatment, SIB reduces both photoneutron and OOF doses to almost the same extent as FFF deliveries. It is recommended to apply moderately hypofractionated 6‑MV SIB FFF-VMAT when considering photoneutron or OOF doses. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Electroanatomical mapping after cardiac radioablation for treatment of incessant electrical storm: a  case report from the RAVENTA trial
ConclusionThe case highlights the possible approach, caveats, difficulties, and prognosis of a  patient severely affected by therapy-resistant VT in whom CA could not lead to VT suppression. Further studies of putative mechanisms of STAR in the acute and chronic phase of this novel therapy are warranted. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Radiation therapy for cancer is potentially associated with reduced growth of concomitant abdominal aortic aneurysm
ConclusionIn this study, both infield and outfield radiation exposure were associated with reduced AAA growth. This finding warrants further investigation, both in a  larger scale clinical cohort and on a molecular level. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Chronic inflammatory effects of in vivo irradiation of the murine heart on endothelial cells mimic mechanisms involved in atherosclerosis
ConclusionThe long-lasting upregulation of prominent inflammatory markers on primary heart and lung ECs suggests that local heart irradiation induces chronic inflammation in the microvasculature of the heart and partially irradiated lung that leads to cardiac injury which might be related to altered lipid metabolism in the heart. Comprehensive geriatric assessment predicts radiation-induced acute toxicity in prostate cancer patients
ConclusionGeriatric conditions seem to be predictive of the development of high-grade radiation-induced toxicity in prostate cancer patients treated with definitive radiotherapy. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Use of immobilisation bra for daily setup of patients with pendulous breasts undergoing radiotherapy
ConclusionOur study demonstrated the feasibility of using a  customised bra which provided optimal setup reproducibility while maintaining minimal skin toxicity and patient comfort, especially the value-added modesty felt among Asian women during their breast cancer radiotherapy. Long-term survival in patients with brain metastases —clinical characterization of a rare scenario
ConclusionIn this monocentric setting reflecting daily pattern of care, LTS with BM is heterogeneous and difficult to predict. Effective local treatment and modern systemic therapies often appear crucial for LTS. The impact of concomitant diseases and frailty is not clear. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Current situation in radiation oncology residency —Results of a national survey performed by the working group Young DEGRO of the German Society of Radiation Oncology
ConclusionThe study provides suggestions for improving RO medical training in Germany: further development of accompanying education and training programs in cooperation with professional associations, e.g., the DEGRO, structured feedback, and supervision. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Whole-pelvic irradiation with boost to involved nodes and prostate in node-positive prostate cancer —long-term data from the prospective PLATIN-2 trial
ConclusionDefinitive radiation to the lymphatic drainage with SIB to the involved nodes and prostate is a  safe and effective treatment approach for patients with treatment-naïve, node-positive prostate cancer with excellent infield tumor control rates and tolerable toxicity. Location rather than number of involved nodes is a major risk factor for progression. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Influence of demographic change on the demand for radiotherapy using forecasted predictions for prostate cancer in Germany
ConclusionWe observe an age-associated increase in primary cases of PC. This is likely to result in an increased demand for RT. The exact demand cannot be predicted. However, trends can be estimated to plan for the demand. This, though, requires a  good database from cancer registries. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)
