Major complications after intraoperative radiotherapy with low-energy x-rays in early breast cancer
ConclusionIORT is an efficient and safe treatment method as<  2.5% of all IORT patients experienced major local complications. However, it seems to pose the risk of causing severe local complications that may require lengthy and burdensome treatment. Thorough preoperative counseling, implementation of recommended intraoperative precautions, and high vigilan ce for first symptoms of complications during follow-up appointments are necessary measures. Long-term survival in patients with brain metastases —clinical characterization of a rare scenario
ConclusionIn this monocentric setting reflecting daily pattern of care, LTS with BM is heterogeneous and difficult to predict. Effective local treatment and modern systemic therapies often appear crucial for LTS. The impact of concomitant diseases and frailty is not clear. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) of early breast cancer with low-energy x-rays in breast-conserving surgery
ConclusionWe observed that preoperative ultrasound-based tumor –skin distance is a significant factor in addition to already known parameters to predict feasibility of IORT. Based on our findings we developed a formula to optimize IORT planning which might serve as an additional tool to improve patient selection for IORT in early breast cancer. Post-mastectomy reirradiation for ipsilateral T3N0M0 breast tumor relapse: a  population-based study
ConclusionFor patients undergoing total mastectomy after an ipsilateral T3N0M0 breast tumor recurrence, subsequent to initial breast cancer treatment involving breast-conserving surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy, chest wall reirradiation does not enhance survival outcomes. As such, it should not be routinely performed. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Stereoscopic X-ray image and thermo-optical surface guidance for breast cancer radiotherapy in deep inspiration breath-hold
ConclusionDIBH treatments using thermo-optical SGRT and  X-ray IGRT were feasible for breast cancer patients. Stereoscopic X‑ray positioning was successfully verified by standard IGRT techniques. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Use of immobilisation bra for daily setup of patients with pendulous breasts undergoing radiotherapy
ConclusionOur study demonstrated the feasibility of using a  customised bra which provided optimal setup reproducibility while maintaining minimal skin toxicity and patient comfort, especially the value-added modesty felt among Asian women during their breast cancer radiotherapy. Radiation therapy of breast cancer in the Nahe Breast Center: first results of an analysis in the context of health services research
ConclusionThe results of radiotherapy for breast carcinoma at the Nahe Breast Center are comparable to published national and international results. In particular, the local recurrence rates in our study, determined absolutely and actuarially, are excellent, and demonstrate the usefulness of radiotherapy. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Sarcopenia is associated with chemoradiotherapy discontinuation and reduced progression-free survival in glioblastoma patients
ConclusionSarcopenia is a  strong risk factor for treatment discontinuation and reduced progression-free survival in glioblastoma patients. We propose that sarcopenic patients should receive intensified supportive care during radiotherapy and during follow-up as well as expedited access to palliative care. Patient-reported symptoms before adjuvant locoregional radiotherapy for breast cancer: triple-negative histology impacts the symptom burden
ConclusionDifferent surgical strategies, age, and body mass index did not impact on ESAS scores, while the type of adjuvant systemic therapy did. The effect of previous neoadjuvant treatment and unfavorable tumor biology (triple negative) emerged as important factors associated with symptom burden, albeit in different domains. ESAS data may facilitate identification of patients who should be considered for additional supportive measures to alleviate specific symptoms. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Enhancing the prediction of symptomatic radiation pneumonitis for locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer by combining 3D deep learning-derived imaging features with dose –volume metrics: a two-center study
ConclusionImaging features extracted from pre-radiotherapy planning CT using 3D DL networks could predict radiation pneumonitis and may be of clinical value for risk stratification and toxicity management in LA-NSCLC patients.Clinical relevance statementIntegrating DL-derived features with dose –volume metrics provides a promising noninvasive method to predict radiation pneumonitis in LA-NSCLC lung cancer radiotherapy, thus improving individualized treatment and patient outcomes.
