Dosimetric advantages for cardiac substructures in radiotherapy of esophageal cancer in deep-inspiration breath hold
ConclusionRadiotherapy in DIBH could provide a  method to reduce the radiation dose to the left ventricle and coronaries, which could reduce the cardiac toxicity of the modality. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Radiochemotherapy and interstitial brachytherapy for cervical cancer: clinical results and patient-reported outcome measures
ConclusionIn patients with advanced cervical cancer, a  combination of RCT and BT remains an excellent treatment option. In terms of patient-reported long-term quality of life, specific support is needed to alleviate symptoms including lymphedema, peripheral neuropathy, and impaired sexual activity. Excellent long-term pain response and local control following postoperative radiotherapy in patients with multiple myeloma
ConclusionIn this study, we were able to show that the current standard of RT after spinal surgery of osteolytic lesions is safe. In addition, we observed a  very low rate of SRE (4%) and no in-field recurrences, demonstrating the local efficacy of RT in multiple myeloma patients. Higher Bilsky scores were associated with worse OS in multivariate analysis, but had no effect on pain response. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Ulcerating skin lesions from blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm responding to low-dose radiotherapy —a case report and literature review
AbstractBlastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a  rare hematologic malignancy that can manifest with skin nodules and erythematous plaques. In most cases BPDCN progresses rapidly, causing multiple skin lesions and also affecting internal organs and bone marrow, warranting initiation of systemic therapies or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT). Although not curative, radiotherapy for isolated lesions might be indicated in case of (imminent) ulceration and large or symptomatic lesions. To this end, doses of 27.0–51.0 Gy have been reported. Here, we present the case of an 80-year-old male with ...

Prostate cancer and elective nodal radiation therapy for cN0 and pN0 —a never ending story?
AbstractFor prostate cancer, the role of elective nodal irradiation (ENI) for cN0 or pN0 patients has been under discussion for years. Considering the recent publications of randomized controlled trials, the prostate cancer expert panel of the German Society of Radiation Oncology (DEGRO) aimed to discuss and summarize the current literature. Modern trials have been recently published for both treatment-na ïve patients (POP-RT trial) and patients after surgery (SPPORT trial). Although there are more reliable data to date, we identified several limitations currently complicating the definitions of general recommendations. F...

Treatment-related pneumonitis after thoracic radiotherapy/chemoradiotherapy combined with anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibodies in advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionThe combination of thoracic radiotherapy/chemoradiotherapy with anti-PD ‑1 mAbs displayed a tolerable pulmonary safety profile. Although the incidence of TRP was high, grade 1–2 TRP accounted for the majority. Anti-PD‑1 mAbs administered concurrently with radiotherapy and the lung V5 were significantly associated with the occurrence of grade  2 or higher TRP. Therefore, it seems safer to control V5 below 55% in clinical, especially for the high-risk populations receiving concurrent therapy. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Six-year outcomes of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy versus volumetric modulated arc therapy for localized prostate cancer: A  propensity score-matched analysis
ConclusionOn the basis of PSM after a  6-year follow-up, RARP and VMAT showed equivalent and excellent oncological outcomes, as well as acceptable complication profiles. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SIB-VMAT technique) to dominant intraprostatic lesion (DIL) for localized prostate cancer: a  dose-escalation trial (DESTROY-4).
ConclusionThis trial confirms the feasibility and safety of a  total SIB-VMAT dose of 35 Gy on the whole gland and 50 Gy on DIL in 5 fractions daily administered in a well-selected low- and intermediate-risk prostate carcinoma population. A phase II study is ongoing to confirm the tolerability of the schedule and assess the efficacy. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

The role of artificial intelligence in informed patient consent for radiotherapy treatments —a case report
AbstractRecent advancements in large language models (LMM; e.g., ChatGPT (OpenAI, San Francisco, California, USA)) have seen widespread use in various fields, including healthcare. This case study reports on the first use of LMM in a  pretreatment discussion and in obtaining informed consent for a radiation oncology treatment. Further, the reproducibility of the replies by ChatGPT 3.5 was analyzed. A breast cancer patient, following legal consultation, engaged in a conversation with ChatGPT 3.5 regarding her radiotherapy t reatment. The patient posed questions about side effects, prevention, activities, medications, ...

Post-mastectomy reirradiation for ipsilateral T3N0M0 breast tumor relapse: a  population-based study
ConclusionFor patients undergoing total mastectomy after an ipsilateral T3N0M0 breast tumor recurrence, subsequent to initial breast cancer treatment involving breast-conserving surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy, chest wall reirradiation does not enhance survival outcomes. As such, it should not be routinely performed. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)
