Palliative appropriateness criteria: external validation of a  new method to evaluate the suitability of palliative radiotherapy fractionation
ConclusionThis study supports the dual strategy of PRL and risk of early death calculation, with results stratified for fractionation regimen, in line with the original PAC score study. When considering multifraction regimens, the PAC score identifies patients who may benefit from shorter courses. Additional work is needed to answer open questions surrounding the underlying components of the score, because the original and validation study were only partially aligned. Low-dose radiotherapy of osteoarthritis: from biological findings to clinical effects —challenges for future studies
AbstractOsteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common and socioeconomically relevant diseases, with rising incidence and prevalence especially with regard to an ageing population in the Western world. Over the decades, the scientific perception of OA has shifted from a  simple degeneration of cartilage and bone to a multifactorial disease involving various cell types and immunomodulatory factors. Despite a wide range of conventional treatment modalities available, a significant proportion of patients remain treatment refractory. Low-dose radiotherapy (LDRT) ha s been used for decades in the treatment of patients with i...

The new German evidence-based guideline on diffuse large B-cell lymphoma —key aspects for radiation oncologists
ConclusionRT remains an integral part of the treatment repertoire of DLBCL. With the use of PET-guided treatment, RT is indicated for patients with metabolically active tumors. In the context of the ongoing development of targeted therapies, new RT indications may evolve. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

CT radiomic predictors of local relapse after SBRT for lung oligometastases from colorectal cancer: a  single institute pilot study
ConclusionFour RFs extracted from planning CT were significantly associated with LP of LOM from CRC treated with SBRT. Results encourage further research on a  larger population aiming to define a usable radiomic score combining the most predictive RFs and, possibly, additional clinical features. Physical and nonphysical effects of weekly music therapy intervention on the condition of radiooncology patients
ConclusionIn our study cohort of radiooncology patients, weekly MT sessions improved defined physical parameters as well as pain, physical comfort, and respiratory comfort. Establishing MT in the routine clinical setting should be more readily considered to further improve patient outcomes. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)

Systematic risk analysis of radiation pneumonitis in breast cancer: role of cotreatment with chemo-, endocrine, and targeted therapy
ConclusionCommon treatment schedules in sequential chemoradiation following breast-conserving surgery only moderately increase lung toxicity, mainly as an asymptomatic complication, or to a  minor extent, as transient pneumonitis ≤ grade 2. However, combined treatment with tamoxifen and the LHRH analog goserelin significantly increased the risk of pneumonitis in breast cancer patients after chemoradiation. Thus, closer surveillance of involved patients is advisable. (Source: Strahlentherapie und Onkologie)
