Paraquat ingestion in an adult with cystic fibrosis (CF): Diagnostic and management dilemmas
We report the effects of an ingestion of paraquat by a 28  year old male with cystic fibrosis and the diagnostic and management challenges this posed in both the acute and longer term setting. AbstractN,N'-dimethyl-4,4'bipyridinium dichloride (Paraquat) is a potent herbicide used widely in agriculture. We report the effects of an ingestion of paraquat by a 28  year old male with cystic fibrosis and the diagnostic and management challenges this posed in both the acute and longer term setting. We describe the effects of direct paraquat toxicity on the lung tissue secondary to aspiration and review the long-term sequelae ...

X ‐linked inheritance of primary ciliary dyskinesia and retinitis pigmentosa due to RPGR variant: A case report and literature review
This study reviewed a case of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP) with the relevant literature. The patient had a persistent cough, sputum, and diffuse bronchiectasis. He was diagnosed with a combination of PCD and RP, with the presence of an X-linked retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator (RPGR) variant confirmed through electron microscopy, retinal scan, and genetic testing. Although co-occurrence of bronchiectasis and RP is rare, PCD should be considered in cases of persistent wet cough in childhood or unidentified bronchiectasis aetiology. Ophthalmologists should consider concomitant PCD in RP...

Primary benign intratracheal schwannoma: A case report and review of the literature
Schwannomas are benign tumours that originate from Schwann cells. Primary trachea tumours are uncommon. Here we report a case of primary schwannoma of the trachea in a 16  year-old male patient. AbstractShwannomas are rare benign tumours especially in tracheal. A 16-year-old male presented with a chronic cough, and a thoracic CT scan revealed a pedunculated tumour measuring approximately 11  × 13 mm in size, located 22 mm away from the main carina. Tissue sample was obtained via rigid bronchoscopy and cryobiopsy, and the pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of a benign nerve sheath tumour consistent wit...

Computed tomography manifestations of a case of varicella zoster virus (VZV) pneumonia
This report highlights the computed tomography manifestations of disseminated VZV pneumonia. Key messageDisseminated VZV infections is rare in healthy adults. Several studies have reported VZV reactivation and eruption happens in an immunocompromised host especially after solid organ transplantation. Nonetheless, diffuse bilateral lung VZV infections is also rare. We report a case of disseminated VZV pneumonia after renal transplantation and methylprednisolone treatment. This report highlights the computed tomography manifestations of disseminated VZV pneumonia. (Source: Respirology Case Reports)

Thoracic SMARCA4 ‐deficient undifferentiated tumour: Diagnostic challenges and potential for misdiagnosis in small tissue samples
We report a diagnostically challenging case of a SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumour to emphasize its potential to mimic other malignant tumours on histology, especially in small biopsies and where rhabdoid morphology is lacking. A 48-year-old man, who was known for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and polysubstance use, presented with dyspnoea and an anterior mediastinal mass that had grown rapidly over a seven-month period. The rapid growth and location in the anterior mediastinum raised clinical suspicion for lymphoma or a germ cell tumour. Microscopic examination of a transthoracic, ultrasound-guided, core n...

Biliothorax in a patient with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma
We present the case of a patient with a history of unresectable locally advanced cholangiocarcinoma, complicated by the development of a biliothorax. AbstractBiliothorax is a rare but serious condition, as the presence of bile is damaging and can lead to empyema. Here, we report a case of a 51-year-old man recently diagnosed with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma, admitted to the hospital for malignant obstructive jaundice. After interventional management of biliary obstruction, the patient developed a significant right pleural effusion compatible with biliothorax, successfully managed with pleural drainage and antibiotic th...

Comorbidity of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis in chronic eosinophilic pneumonia
The comorbidity of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis in chronic eosinophilic pneumonia can occur. AbstractWe aimed to elucidate details of comorbid chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) in chronic eosinophilic pneumonia (CEP) under the collaboration between otolaryngologists and pulmonologists in a prospective study. The CEP diagnosis was performed by pulmonologists based on clinical symptoms, laboratory findings, and/or eosinophilia detected in bronchoalveolar lavage. All patients were referred to otolaryngologists before undergoing oral corticosteroid treatment for CEP. Ten CEP cases visited to otolaryngologists. All cases show...
