Efficacy and Safety of Epidural Chloroprocaine for Breakthrough Pain During Labor Analgesia: A Prospective, Double-Blind, Randomized Trial
ConclusionParturients experiencing breakthrough pain could receive 1.5% epidural chloroprocaine, rather than lower chloroprocaine concentrations and ropivacaine, to achieve more rapid and better pain relief with higher patient satisfaction.Trial RegistrationChinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2300071069,http://www.chictr.org.cn/index.aspx. Intraoperative Opioid Waste and Association of Intraoperative Opioid Dose with Postoperative Adverse Outcomes: A Hospital Registry Study
ConclusionSmaller syringe sizes of intraoperative opioids may help to reduce product waste and associated costs, as well postoperative adverse events through utilization of lower intraoperative opioid doses. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Unmet Needs of Patients Living with Migraine in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries
This article reports the key outcomes from a meeting of migraine specialists and their patients organised by the Emirates Neurology Society to learn more about the patient diagnosis and treatment journey and the extent to which migraine affects daily life. Patient stories indicate that the burden of migraine is underestimated, migraine is not generally recognised as a disease, delayed and incorrect diagnoses are common, and that achieving symptom control is often more a question of good luck rather than good management. Disease awareness campaigns are recommended to elevate societal understanding of migraine and reduce sti...

Deep Learning Algorithm Trained on Oblique Cervical Radiographs to Predict Outcomes of Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection for Pain from Cervical Foraminal Stenosis
ConclusionA CNN model trained using oblique cervical radiographs can be helpful in predicting treatment outcomes after cervical TFESI in patients with cervical foraminal stenosis. If the predictive accuracy is increased, we believe that the deep learning model using cervical radiographs as input data can be easily and widely used in clinics or hospitals. Model-Based Meta-Analysis Supporting the Combination of Acetaminophen and Topical Diclofenac in Acute Pain: A Therapy for Mild-to-Moderate Osteoarthritis Pain?
ConclusionOur results indicate greater pain reduction and opioid-sparing efficacy for the AtopD combination versus acetaminophen monotherapy. Given the similar pain pathways and mechanisms of action of the two drugs in acute and mild-to-moderate OA pain, comparable beneficial effects from the combination therapy may be anticipated following extrapolation to chronic OA pain. Prospective RCTs and real-world studies in OA pain are needed to confirm the differences in the efficacy of the combination treatment observed in our study. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Model-Based Assessment of the Liver Safety Profile of Acetaminophen to Support its Combination Use with Topical Diclofenac in Mild-to-Moderate Osteoarthritis Pain
ConclusionsOverall, our analysis shows that short-term (~  8–16 weeks) acetaminophen use at therapeutically recommended doses is associated with a low risk of clinically relevant changes in liver enzymes. Given the good tolerability of topical diclofenac, the findings support the safety of the combination of acetaminophen and topical diclofenac, at le ast over the short term, as treatment for mild-to-moderate OA pain. Percutaneous Stylomastoid Foramen Pulsed Radiofrequency Combined with Steroid Injection for Treatment of Intractable Facial Paralysis After Herpes Zoster
ConclusionsPercutaneous stylomastoid foramen pulsed radiofrequency combined with drug injection of the facial nerve for treatment of intractable facial paralysis after herpes zoster is a minimally invasive technique with high rates of success, safety, and effective outcomes. It is a potential therapeutic option for cases of facial paralysis of herpes zoster with a> 1 month history even for those with severe facial paralysis and whose treatment has failed after oral medication and physiotherapy. Neuromodulation Techniques in Chronic Refractory Coccydynia: A Narrative Review
AbstractRefractory coccydynia is a condition characterized by severe coccygeal pain and poses a challenging management dilemma for clinicians. Advancements in neuromodulation (NM) technology have provided benefits to people experiencing chronic pain that is resistant to standard treatments. This review aims to summarize the spectrum of current NM techniques employed in the treatment of refractory coccydynia along with their effectiveness. A review of studies in the scientific literature from 2012 to 2023 was conducted, revealing a limited number of case reports. Although the available evidence at this time suggests signifi...

Gut Microbiota Modulation and Its Implications on Neuropathic Pain: A Comprehensive Literature Review
AbstractNeuropathic pain (NP) is a chronic pain disorder arising from somatosensory nervous system impairment. Extensive evidence supports the notion that the gut microbiota (GM) is crucial in maintaining human health by performing vital tasks. At the same time, its disruption has been linked to the emergence and advancement of an expanding range of disorders, including NP, in which GM could play a role in its pathophysiology. The crosstalk between the nervous system and GM happens through immune mediators, metabolites, and nervous structures and involves both central and peripheral nervous systems. This literature review ...

Effect of CT-Guided Repeated Pulsed Radiofrequency on Controlling Acute/Subacute Zoster-Associated Pain: A Retrospective Cohort Study
ConclusionsBoth R-PRF and PRF  + PVB treatments effectively relieve pain in patients with acute/subacute ZAP. However, R-PRF may have superior efficacy compared to PRF + PVB in reducing the incidence of clinically meaningful ZAP 1 month after treatment. (Source: Pain and Therapy)
