Diagnosis and Treatment of Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy Using Selective Nerve Root Block (SNRB): Where are We Now?
AbstractCervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR) is one of the most common degenerative diseases of the spine that is commonly treated with surgery. The primary goal of surgery is to relieve symptoms through decompression or relieving pressure on compressed cervical nerves. Nevertheless, cutaneous pain distribution is not always predictable, making accurate diagnosis challenging and increasing the likelihood of inadequate surgical outcomes. With the widespread application of minimally invasive surgical techniques, the requirement for precise preoperative localization of the affected segments has become critical, especially...

The Effect of M-Health-Based Core Stability Exercise Combined with Self-Compassion Training for Patients with Nonspecific Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study
ConclusionsThe pilot study is feasible to deliver, and our results indicate that participants in the group of m-health-based CSE combined with SCT may experience faster relief from pain intensity and back disability than those in the group of m-health-based CSE alone.Trial RegistrationChiCTR2100042810. Diagnostic and Predictive Capacity of the Spanish Versions of the Opioid Risk Tool and the Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain —Revised: A Preliminary Investigation in a Sample of People with Noncancer Chronic Pain
ConclusionIn the setting of Spanish-speaking communities, clinicians should be cautious when using these instruments to make decisions on opioid administration. Further research is needed on the diagnostic and predictive capacity of the Spanish versions of both instruments. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Opioid-Induced Constipation in Real-World Practice: A Physician Survey, 1 Year Later
ConclusionsDespite some limitations, our study demonstrated a slow but important step closer to standardization of diagnosis and treatment of OIC. Further educational and training efforts should be put in place to favor best evidence-based clinical practice. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Genetic and Clinical Factors Associated with Opioid Response in Chinese Han Patients with Cancer Pain: An Exploratory Cross-Sectional Study
ConclusionsThis study reveals for the first time that construction of multidimensional gene –environment interactions enables better interpretations of the effect of genetic variation and environmental factors on the opioid response in patients with cancer pain.Trial registrationChictr.org.cn, identifier, ChiCTR2000033576. Racial Differences in Pain, Nutrition, and Oxidative Stress
AbstractInvestigating the disproportionate rates of chronic pain and their related comorbidities between Black and non-Hispanic White (White) individuals is a growing area of interest, both in the healthcare community and in general society. Researchers have identified racial differences in chronic pain prevalence and severity, but still very little is known about the mechanisms underlying them. Current explanations for these differences have primarily focused on socioeconomic status and unequal healthcare between races as causal factors. Whereas these factors are informative, a racial gap still exists between Black and Wh...

Development of a Model for Predicting the Effectiveness of Pulsed Radiofrequency on Zoster-Associated Pain
ConclusionsSeven factors were significantly associated with poor PRF outcome: male sex, advanced stage of HZ, higher pregabalin dose, higher bodily pain indicators of SF-36, and lower lymphocyte count, LDLC, and complement C4 in the peripheral blood. PRF should be applied to patients with ZAP as early as possible to achieve satisfactory outcomes. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes of Combined Posterior Transfacet Screw Fixation and Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion Surgery for Unilateral Cervical Facet Fracture with Traumatic Disc Herniation: A Retrospective Cohort Study
ConclusionIn the absence of any self-evident clinical and radiographic benefits of one technique over the other (TFS  + ACDF vs. LMSR + ACDF), we recommend combined TFS + ACDF surgery as a safe and less invasive alternative treatment for unilateral cervical facet fractures with traumatic disc herniation, as it was associated with a shorter duration of surgery and lower estimated blood loss than LMSR  + ACDF surgery. Opioids for Treatment of Pre-hospital Acute Pain: A Systematic Review
ConclusionsAvailable evidence for pre-hospital opioid administration to relieve acute pain is scarce and the overall quality of evidence is low. Intravenous administration of synthetic, fast-acting opioids may be as effective and safe as intravenous administration of morphine. More controlled studies are needed on alternative routes for opioid administration and pre-hospital pain management for potentially more frail patient subgroups. (Source: Pain and Therapy)
