DANTE Study: The First Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo and Active-Controlled, Parallel Arm Group Study Evaluating the Analgesic Efficacy and Safety of Dexketoprofen TrometAmol aNd Tramadol Hydrochloride Oral FixEd Dose Combination on Moderate to Severe Acute Pain in Patients with Acute Low Back Pain —Rationale and Design
AbstractIntroductionDespite a wide range of treatment approaches and the availability of treatment recommendations or guidelines, no consensus on the most effective pharmacological therapy of low back pain (LBP) has been reached yet. Therefore, additional clinical evidence, particularly if built upon a rigorous clinical trial design, an evidence-based medication choice, and broader inclusion criteria better acknowledging the heterogeneity and intrinsic variability of LBP is needed. The DANTE study has been designed to comprehensively assess the analgesic efficacy and tolerability of dexketoprofen/tramadol (DKP/TRAM) 75/25 ...

Prevalence of and  Risk Factors for Prescription Opioid Misuse, Abuse, Diversion and Doctor Shopping in Japan: A Survey Study
ConclusionEven in Japan, which has not experienced the surge in opioid consumption documented in other countries, aberrant prescription opioid-taking behaviors were observed. When prescribing opioid analgesics, universal precautions should always be taken for both cancer and non-cancer patients.Trial RegistrationUMIN000041788. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Analysis of Efficacy and Factors Associated with Reccurence After Radiofrequency Thermocoagulation in Patients with Postherpetic Neuralgia: a Long-Term Retrospective and Clinical Follow-Up Study
ConclusionCT-guided RF-TC of the dorsal root ganglion of the spinal nerve for PHN is a relatively safe and effective surgical option. Disease course, type of RF electrode, complications, and pain grade are risk factors for postoperative recurrence and can assist in clinical decision-making before the RF-CT procedure. Differences in Brain Activity Between Dopa-Responsive and -Unresponsive Pain in Parkinson ’s Disease
ConclusionsRegional neural activity and functional connectivity in the brain differ substantially among Parkinson ’s patients with dopa-unresponsive pain, dopa-responsive pain or no pain. Our results suggest that dopa-responsive and -unresponsive pain may arise through different mechanisms, which may help guide the development of targeted therapies. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

Intravenous Parecoxib for Pain Relief after Orthopedic Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionLow to moderate evidence indicates that parecoxib might be an effective and safe analgesic in perioperative orthopedic settings. It relieves postoperative orthopedic pain while sparing opioid analgesic consumption without increasing the incidence of adverse events.PROSPERO RegistrationCRD42021274939. (Source: Pain and Therapy)

A Cost-Effectiveness Study Comparing Ready-to-Administer and Traditional Vial-and-Syringe Method for Opioids
ConclusionThis economic evaluation   analyzed costs of using manufacturer-prepared prefilled RTA syringe product IV opioids and incremental benefits in terms of reduced errors, adverse events, and their associated costs. Manufacturer-prepared prefilled RTA syringe product was found to be cost-effective, demonstrating cost savings b y reduction in the error rates. Integrating and adopting RTA syringe products within a health system could play an important role in improving care, building efficiency, increasing patient safety, and saving money. Effect of Ultrasound-Guided Fascia Iliac Compartment Block with Nalbuphine and Ropivacaine on Preoperative Pain in Older Patients with Hip Fractures: A Multicenter, Triple-Blinded, Randomized, Controlled Trial
ConclusionsUGFICB with 5, 10, and 20  mg nalbuphine added to ropivacaine prolonged the analgesia duration, increased sensory block area, reduced pain, and decreased the doses of rescue parecoxib sodium for older patients after hip fracture, without obvious side effects. Among these three doses, nalbuphine 20 mg in combination with ro pivacaine provided the longest duration of analgesia and the largest sensory block area.Trial RegistrationChinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2000029934). Non-pharmacological Options in Postoperative Hospital-Based and Rehabilitation Pain Management (NOHARM): Protocol for a Stepped-Wedge Cluster-Randomized Pragmatic Clinical Trial
AbstractIntroductionOpioids may be necessary for guideline-concordant acute perioperative pain management, but their use carries risks for unintended prolonged use and addiction. Guidelines recommend use of validated non-pharmacological pain care (NPPC) approaches in conjunction with prescribed opioids and other analgesics. Our protocol outlines a population-level, pragmatic trial that will test a bundled intervention comprised of an electronic health record (EHR) portal-based conversation guide, EHR clinical decision support (CDS), and a suite of self-management educational and support materials to encourage and advance N...

Physical Activity is Associated with Less Analgesic Use in Women Reporting Headache —A Cross-Sectional Study of the German Migraine and Headache Society (DMKG)
ConclusionsThere are both sex-unspecific and sex-specific factors associated with analgesic use among men and women with headache. In women with increased analgesic use, promoting physical activity may reduce analgesic use. For men, education about the therapeutic effects of physical activity for headaches is an important resource. (Source: Pain and Therapy)
