Botox rechallenge —An additional tool in the management of an incompletely emptying bladder and inadequate overactive symptom control following sacral neuromodulation
AbstractTwo female patients aged 70 and 72 with video ‐urodynamics‐confirmed detrusor overactivity and detrusor underactivity (DO‐DU) were treated. Patients were refractory to medical therapies and had previously failed intravesical botulinum toxin type A (BoNT‐A) at other centers secondary to urinary retention and difficulty with self‐cathet erization. Placement of an Interstim II device (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) for sacral neuromodulation (SNM) as alternative third‐line treatment partially improved overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms while significantly improving voiding symptoms. Postvoid residual (P...

Cardiovascular safety of mirabegron add ‐on therapy to tamsulosin for the treatment of overactive bladder in men with lower urinary tract symptoms: A post hoc analysis from the MATCH study
ConclusionsCardiovascular ‐related adverse events were uncommon in both treatment groups. Mirabegron is a well‐tolerated add‐on therapy to tamsulosin in Japanese and Korean males with residual overactive bladder symptoms. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)

Achieving clinically meaningful quality of life benefits in nocturia takes time: Results from a long ‐term, multicenter phase 3 study of desmopressin in Japanese patients
ConclusionsDesmopressin ODTs (25 and 50  μg) demonstrated long‐term efficacy, improved QoL, and were well tolerated in Japanese male and female patients with nocturia treated for up to 1 year. Clinically meaningful improvements in patients’ QoL, assessed by N‐QoL, sleep quality, and bother, occur later than objective symptom im provements, such as voids. Overactive bladder and sleep disturbance have a significant effect on indoor falls: Results from the community health survey in Japan
ConclusionsThe effect of OAB symptoms and sleep disturbance on indoor fall events was significant. The causal relationship between OAB and falls needs further study. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)

Standardization for reliable uroflowmetry testing in adults
ConclusionPrehydration of patients with 1.5  L of water within 1 hour before uroflowmetry improves uroflowmetry outcomes. By this hydration protocol, the chance to obtain a voided volume over 150 mL is increased significantly. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)

Clinical feasibility and acceptability of adding cognitive behavioral therapy to pharmacotherapy for drug ‐resistant overactive bladder in women: A single‐arm pilot study
ConclusionsThe new treatment based on cognitive behavioral therapy was well tolerated and feasible in women with drug ‐resistant OAB. Further randomized research is needed to rigorously evaluate the efficacy of the treatment. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)

Trigonal ‐sparing versus trigonal‐involved Botox injection for treatment of idiopathic overactive bladder: A randomized clinical trial
ConclusionTrigone injections are not superior to trigone ‐sparing injections. On the contrary, the incidence of UTI and voiding difficulty were higher. The concept of reflux induced by trigonal injection has not been proven. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)

Bladder neck and urethral erosions after Macroplastique injections
ConclusionMPQ erosions present predominantly with UTI, sometimes years after the original injection, and may necessitate endoscopic management with satisfactory results in most patients. Following excision of MPQ, these patients are highly likely to experience SUI recurrence and need to be appropriately counseled. Some may require additional subsequent autologous fascial sling placement for treatment of their SUI symptoms. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)

Sodium plays an important role in the absorption of intravesical fluid
ConclusionsThe presence of sodium is important for the absorption of intravesical fluid through aquaporin ‐2 in the urinary bladders of rats. Claudin‐3 and ‐6 may be associated with the transport of sodium through the bladder urothelium. (Source: LUTS: Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms)
