Development and validation of the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire for Male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ ‐MLUTS) and the ICIQ‐MLUTS Long Form in Chinese population
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to develop and validate Chinese versions of the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire for Male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ ‐MLUTS) and ICIQ‐MLUTS Long Form (LF), and to discuss their potential functions.MethodsThe original ICIQ ‐MLUTS and ICIQ‐MLUTS LF were translated into Chinese after obtaining permission from the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire Advisory Board. Between November 2017 and August 2018, the Chinese versions of the ICIQ‐MLUTS and ICIQ‐MLUTS LF were validated by adminis tering them to male patients...

Factors affecting doctor visits of postmenopausal women with urinary incontinence
ConclusionsPatients who suffer from severe UI and whose quality of life is affected more negatively are more likely to visit a doctor. Women who believe that UI is normal are less likely to visit a doctor. Awareness about UI should be increased in order to increase the rate of visiting a doctor for this condition. Pathophysiological mechanisms in detrusor underactivity: Novel experimental findings
Underactive bladder (UAB) is a multifactorial symptom complex often related to detrusor underactivity (DU). Although recognized as a common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms and with significant effects on quality of life, UAB/DU is largely underresearched. Herein, we review up ‐to‐date knowledge on the pathophysiological mechanisms of UAB/DU, with an emphasis on the relationship between UAB and bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). Original articles and reviews concerning UAB/DU were identified through a search of the PubMed/Medline and Scopus databases. DU can result fro m several pathological mechanisms, which can b...

Feasibility of approximate measurement of bladder volume in male patients using the Lilium α‐200 portable ultrasound bladder scanner
This study examined the accuracy of a new portable ultrasound bladder scanner, the Lilium α‐200 (Lilium Otsuka, Kanagawa, Japan), by evaluating the correlation between bladder volumes periodically measured by the Lilium α‐200 and instilled volume during video‐urodynamic studies (V‐UDS).MethodsUsing the Lilium α‐200, fluid volume was measured prospectively in the bladders of patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction during V‐UDS. This was done both immediately after micturition (for assessment of post‐void residual [PVR] volume) and at 1‐minute intervals during filling cystometry with p...

Evaluation of resistive index of the prostate and bladder sonomorphologic parameters as replacements for urodynamics to predict bladder outlet obstruction in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia
This study investigated whether the resistive index (RI) of prostate and bladder sonomorphologic parameters (total prostate volume [TPV], detrusor wall thickness [DWT], intraprostatic protrusion [IPP]) can be used instead of urodynamic studies (UDS) to predict bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).MethodsMen aged ≥50 years with clinical BPH/LUTS were prospectively enrolled included. Basic evaluations, measurement of sonomorphologic parameters, and UDS were performed in accordance with the International Continence Society's Good Urodynamics ...

Use of an occlusive penile clamp during filling cystometry in men with symptoms of stress urinary incontinence
This study evaluated cystometry and pressure flow studies (PFS) in men in whom severe SUI during attempted filling necessitated application of a penile clamp to allow filling to reach cystometric capacity. Men who had undergone prior radical prostatectomy were identified from a database of patients attending for video urodynamic testing between 2012 and 2017. Symptom scores, bladder diary and free flow rate tests were retrieved. Measurements of the subgroup of men for whom a Thomson‐Walker compression clamp was used to enable full urodynamic evaluation were evaluated. 166 patients were identified. In 30 patients (18%), s...

Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging parameters predict urinary incontinence after robot ‐assisted radical prostatectomy
ObjectiveUrinary incontinence (UI) is a major prostate cancer (PCa) treatment ‐related morbidity. It has been reported that post‐prostatectomy UI is related to the width of the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) and the length of the urethra. However, the details of these anatomical parameters are unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate whether preoperative pelvic param eters or anatomical parameters of the urethra, as measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are correlated with UI.MethodsBetween 2010 and 2017, 571 patients with localized PCa underwent robot ‐assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) at Okayama Un...
