Acute Kidney Injury Associates with Long-Term Increases in Plasma TNFR1, TNFR2, and KIM-1: Findings from the CRIC Study
Conclusions
Among patients with CKD, AKI during hospitalization was associated with increases in plasma TNFR1, TNFR2, and KIM-1 several months after their hospitalization. These results highlight a potential mechanism by which AKI may contribute to more rapid loss of kidney function months to years after the acute insult. Tumor Lysis Syndrome and AKI: Beyond Crystal Mechanisms
Conclusion
This study sheds new light on the pathophysiology of TLS-induced AKI and suggests that extracellular histones may constitute a novel target for therapeutic intervention in TLS when endothelial dysfunction occurs. (Source: Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : JASN)

Factor H-Related Protein 1 Drives Disease Susceptibility and Prognosis in C3 Glomerulopathy
Conclusions
Our findings explain how FHR-1 mutants with duplicated dimerization domains result in predisposition to C3G. They also provide a pathogenic mechanism that may be shared by other diseases, such as IgA nephropathy or age-related macular degeneration, and identify FHR-1 as a potential novel therapeutic target in C3G. Reduced Glomerular Filtration in Diabetes Is Attributable to Loss of Density and Increased Resistance of Glomerular Endothelial Cell Fenestrations
Conclusions
This study demonstrates the critical role of GEnC fenestrations in renal filtration function and suggests EHD3 may be a key regulator, loss of which may contribute to declining glomerular filtration function through aberrant GEnC fenestration regulation. This points to EHD3 as a novel therapeutic target to restore filtration function in disease. (Source: Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : JASN)

Intestinal Bacterial Translocation Contributes to Diabetic Kidney Disease
Conclusions
Impaired MAVS signaling both in the kidney and intestine contributes to the disrupted homeostasis, leading to diabetic kidney disease progression. Controlling intestinal homeostasis may offer a novel therapeutic approach for this condition. (Source: Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : JASN)

Protein Kinase A Downregulation Delays the Development and Progression of Polycystic Kidney Disease
Conclusions
PKA-I is the main PKA isozyme promoting cystogenesis. Direct PKA inhibition may be an effective strategy to treat PKD and other conditions where PKA signaling is upregulated. By acting directly on PKA, the inhibition may be more effective than or substantially increase the efficacy of treatments that only affect PKA activity by lowering cAMP. Arginase-1 Is Required for Macrophage-Mediated Renal Tubule Regeneration
Conclusions
GM-CSF–induced, proreparative macrophages express arginase-1, which is required for the S3 tubular cell proliferative response that promotes renal repair after ischemia-reperfusion injury. (Source: Journal of the American Society of Nephrology : JASN)

Cost Barriers to More Widespread Use of Peritoneal Dialysis in the United States
The United States Department of Health and Human Services launched the Advancing American Kidney Health Initiative in 2019, which included a goal of transforming dialysis care from an in-center to a largely home-based dialysis program. A substantial motivator for this transition is the potential to reduce costs of ESKD care with peritoneal dialysis. Studies demonstrating that peritoneal dialysis is less costly than in-center hemodialysis have often focused on the perspective of the payer, whereas less consideration has been given to the costs of those who are more directly involved in treatment decision making, including p...
