Contemporary disparities in progression to orchiopexy for cryptorchidism as reported in the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) database
When evaluating the timeliness of orchiopexy for cryptorchidism, health disparities are apparent among Hispanic and African American males and those with public insurance. Since the publication of these data, the COVID-19 pandemic has stressed our healthcare system and significantly affected the provision of pediatric urology care. Factors Affecting Clean Intermittent Catheterization Compliance among Children and Adolescents with Neurogenic Bladder due to Spina Bifida and Caudal Regression Syndrome
Children and adolescents with neurogenic bladder often need clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) over a long period. Our study aimed to identify factors that affect CIC compliance and to determine if CIC compliance affected short-term urological outcomes among patients in Malaysia. Risk Factors for Mortality in Children with Hemorrhagic Cystitis after Hematopoietic Transplant
Hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) is a devastating complication of bone marrow (BMT) and stem cell transplant (SCT). Much of the literature has focused on exclusively adult patient populations, with limited evidence regarding risk factors for mortality and morbidity among pediatric HC patients. Macedo ileal catheterizable reservoir adding the scissors maneuver of channel continence: long term follow-up
The Macedo ileal catheterizable channel was published in 2000 and consists of an enterocystoplasty with a catheterizable channel that precludes the need of the appendix for the efferent channel. After 25 years of experience with this technique, we decided to review our experience in a select subgroup of cases performed and followed exclusively by the author in a non-teaching hospital facility after the latest modifications of the procedure. Hypospadias-associated penile curvature assessment and management: a global survey of current practice
Our goal was to assess how surgical management of hypospadias-associated penile curvature (HAPC) varies across continents, focusing on factors that influence assessment and decision-making. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Response to the attached letter to the Editor regarding the article to “Volume of the normal prostate gland in polish boys, aged 1-17 years: Based on transabdominal ultrasound - Prospective study"
On behalf of all the authors, I would like to thank you for the extremely interesting and positive analysis of our work. The aim of our study was to expand knowledge about the development of a normal prostate gland in childhood and to establish standards. After reviewing the sparse literature available on this topic, suggesting the usefulness of transabdominal ultrasound examination, we decided to use this method of diagnosis. Especially since it is easily accessible and non-invasive. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Urology Mythbusters: Does Prevalence of Vesicoureteral Reflux in Children Vary by Race?
In this edition of Mythbusters, we examine the premise that prevalence of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in children varies by race. Specifically, we consider whether there is evidence supporting the contention that VUR is more common in White children and less common in Black children.Statements regarding the lower prevalence of VUR in Black children are ubiquitous in both research papers and reviews. Many of the references cited in support of these statements do not actually support the existence of racial variation in VUR, due to uncontrolled single-arm study designs, highly selected samples at risk for bias, or simply not...

Can Paediatric Surgical Registrars Safely Perform Supervised Hypospadias Surgery?
Hypospadias repair is regarded as a technically demanding, complex procedure, with variable outcomes. Therefore, it tends to be performed by consultants, with limited trainee involvement. We aimed to study the clinical outcomes of supervised registrars performing proximal and distal hypospadias repairs, compared to their consultant mentors. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Association between CACNA1D polymorphisms and hypospadias in a southern Chinese population
Hypospadias is a congenital genitourinary malformation, with the etiology remaining complex and poorly understood. Despite several genes have been identified to be associated with the risk of hypospadias, current understanding of the susceptibility loci for hypospadias yet remained largely improved. The CACNA1D gene encodes calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha 1d and may be involved in androgen signaling. However, the genetic susceptibility of CACNA1D associated with hypospadias has yet been addressed. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Letter to the Editor regarding “Efficacy of adjuvant dexmedetomidine on penile block for pediatric hypospadias repair.”
With great interest we read the recent article by Khosravi and colleagues [1], in which addition of dexmedetomidine to a local anesthetic solution improved postoperative analgesic efficacy of single-injection dorsal penile nerve block (DPNB) in pediatric patients undergoing hypospadias repair surgery. In addition to the limitations described in the discussion, however, we noticed several questions on methodology and results of this study. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Editorial comment to “Current state of inclusion and diversity in pediatric urology fellowship programs”
Love et al. [1] surveyed pediatric urology fellowship program directors about barriers to recruitment of diverse fellows. Somewhat unsurprisingly, most respondents were white, male, over 40, seasoned (>5 years in the role), and believed that no barriers existed to recruiting fellows representing groups underrepresented in medicine (URM). What was surprising was that 47% of programs had enacted methods to promote recruitment of URM fellows —yet, pediatric urology remains remarkably undiverse. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Volume of the normal prostate gland in polish boys, aged 1 –17 years: Based on transabdominal ultrasound - Prospective study
I have read with great interest the latest article authored by Kinga Kowalczyk et  al. [1]. I would like to express my gratitude to them for their valuable contribution to the literature through this article. Given the scarcity of studies in the literature focusing on the assessment of prostate volume in children, the authors aimed to evaluate the prostate volume of individuals aged 1 to 17 using various imaging methods. Comparing binary & ordinal definitions of urinary & stool continence outcomes: data from the National Spina Bifida Patient Registry
The National Spina Bifida Patient Registry (NSBPR) assesses bladder and bowel incontinence using ordinal categories, but prior NSBPR analyses employed binary classification. Our aims were to 1) perform the first NSBPR analysis of bladder and bowel incontinence as ordinal outcomes to compare to the binary definition and subject variables; 2) explore the correlation of incontinence with undergarment usage, and 3) assess incontinence status following continence surgeries.
