Editorial comment to “Current state of inclusion and diversity in pediatric urology fellowship programs”

Love et al. [1] surveyed pediatric urology fellowship program directors about barriers to recruitment of diverse fellows. Somewhat unsurprisingly, most respondents were white, male, over 40, seasoned (>5 years in the role), and believed that no barriers existed to recruiting fellows representing groups underrepresented in medicine (URM). What was surprising was that 47% of programs had enacted methods to promote recruitment of URM fellows —yet, pediatric urology remains remarkably undiverse.
