Comment on “Long-term outcomes of foreskin reconstruction in distal hypospadias; a cohort study spanning twenty years”
I would like to express my gratitude to Sommer et  al. for their invaluable research, especially as a surgeon specializing in hypospadias repair surgery. The study offers genuinely valuable insights, and I have thoroughly examined it with great interest [1]. According to their study, Foreskin reconstruction (FR) in conjunction with hypospadias sur gery proves viable in the majority of distal and some distal corporal hypospadias cases. Employing a three-layer closure technique for FR demonstrates an acceptable complication rate, and importantly, does not appear to elevate complications related to urethroplasty. (Source: Jo...

Satisfaction/happiness after hypospadias repair and penile beauty – comment on “Should we correct hypospadias during childhood? Decision Regret And QUality of Life Assessment (DRAQULA) Study”
I read with great interest the study on patient satisfaction, Decision Regret And QUality of Life Assessment (DRAQULA) in adolescents and adults after hypospadias surgery in childhood (1). Among the patients who participated in the survey, the authors assessed their satisfaction based on the surgical outcome and rated them on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 was full satisfaction, 4 was satisfaction, 3 was neither satisfaction nor dissatisfaction, 2 was dissatisfaction and 1 was full dissatisfaction. The authors also asked their patients and their parents about decision regret. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Factors Effecting the Success of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery in Pediatric Patients with Renal Stones: The experience of two tertiary centres with 368 renal units
Currently, in the field of pediatric urology, the primary aim of surgical approaches for the treatment of pediatric renal stone disease is to provide a stoneless state through minimally invasive methods, and to prevent the damage that such stones may cause in the urinary system and stone recurrence. The aim of this multicenter study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of RIRS and the factors affecting its success in the surgical treatment of renal stones in pediatric patients. Perioperative Management of Primary Classic Bladder Exstrophy: A Single Institutional Pathway to Success
Appropriate perioperative management is crucial in patients undergoing classic bladder exstrophy closure (CBE). Therefore, the authors sought to review their intra and postoperative management of patients with CBE undergoing primary closure and examine the impact of this pathway on patient outcomes. Ovotesticular Cords and Ovotesticular Follicles: New Histologic Markers for Human Ovotesticular Syndrome
The presence of an ovotestis is a rare difference of sex development. The diagnosis can be difficult with the gold standard being the presence of both testicular cords and ovarian follicles within the same gonad. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

A Potpourri of pediatric Urology
I am writing this on December 22, which is the first full day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the day after the Winter Solstice. In other words, yesterday had the least daylight of 2023 and we will be gaining over a minute (maybe more!) of daylight every day from now until June 2024. Although there are many celebrations in December, I ’ve personally always been partial to the solstice: I’m one of the many people who needs a lot of sunlight to feel my best, and knowing that this is the annual nadir of light (and that we are back on the upswing!) is wonderful. The potential prophylactic and therapeutic impacts of niacin on ischemia/reperfusion injury of testis
The testicular ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is characterized by the excessive aggregation of un-scavenged reactive oxygen species, leading to the heightened levels of oxidative stress. This phenomenon plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of testicular torsion damage. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Feasibility of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Implementation in Pediatric Urology: Pilot-Phase Outcomes of a Prospective, Multi-Center Study
Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a fundamental shift in perioperative care that has consistently demonstrated an improved outcome for a wide variety of surgeries in adults but has only limited evidence in the pediatric population. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Adult Urological Outcomes for Patients with Anorectal Malformation
Anorectal malformations (ARM) are rare congenital anomalies characterized by a spectrum of defects resulting in the absence of a normal anal opening with or without fistula. Urogenital involvement is common, and the fistulous tract may terminate in the genitourinary system in males or within gynecological structures in females. Surgical reconstruction occurs early in life and survival of these patients to adulthood is the norm. There has, therefore, been increased focus on their long-term outcomes to better anticipate and treat the sequelae that may impact their health and well-being as this population ages.
