Misleading clinical and imaging features in atypical aggressive angiomyxoma of the female vulvovaginal or perianal region: report of three cases and review of the literature
ConclusionsOur findings indicate that even if a vulvovaginal lesion presents with a superficial location, small size, limited scope, and regular shape, suspicion of atypical AAM should arise when palpation reveals toughness, tensility, and deformability under pressure. US reveals a well-defined hypoechoic to anechoic mass with uniformly distributed coarse dot echoes, with or without detectable intratumoral blood flow signal. MRI shows prolonged T1 and T2 signals with inhomogeneous enhancement and evident diffusion restriction on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Pan-cancer and single-cell analyses identify CD44 as an immunotherapy response predictor and regulating macrophage polarization and tumor progression in colorectal cancer
DiscussionThese findings suggest that CD44 is involved in regulating tumor development, macrophage polarization, and has certain predictive value for patient clinical prognosis and response to immunotherapy. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Oncologic outcome with versus without target volume compartmentalization in postoperative radiotherapy for oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma
ConclusionsDe-intensified PORT limiting the treatment volume to the at-risk compartment or avoiding PORT altogether for low-risk patients with OCSCC does not seem to compromise disease control in this retrospective comparison. Based on these hypothesis-generating findings, a prospective study is being planned. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Case report: EGFR fusion mutation combined with EGFR amplification responds to EGFR-TKI therapy
We describe 2 patients with NSCLC harboring EGFR fusion mutations (EGFR-MACF1 and EGFR-GNAT3) combined with EGFR amplification. Both patients received EGFR-TKI treatment, and 1 of them showed an antitumor response. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

PIAS family in cancer: from basic mechanisms to clinical applications
Protein inhibitors of activated STATs (PIAS) are proteins for cytokine signaling that activate activator-mediated gene transcription. These proteins, as versatile cellular regulators, have been described as regulators of approximately 60 proteins. Dysregulation of PIAS is associated with inappropriate gene expression that promotes oncogenic signaling in multiple cancers. Multiple lines of evidence have revealed that PIAS family members show modulated expressions in cancer cells. Most frequently reported PIAS family members in cancer development are PIAS1 and PIAS3. SUMOylation as post-translational modifier regulates sever...

Association between prolactin increasing antipsychotic use and the risk of breast cancer: a retrospective observational cohort study in a United States Medicaid population
This study assessed the association between use of high prolactin increasing antipsychotics (HPD) and the incidence of breast cancer using best practices in pharmacoepidemiology.MethodsUsing administrative claims data from the MarketScan Medicaid database, schizophrenia patients initiating antipsychotics were identified. Those initiating HPD were compared with new users of non/low prolactin increasing drugs (NPD). Two definitions of breast cancer, two at-risk periods, and two large-scale propensity score (PS) adjustment methods were used in separate analyses. PS models included all previously diagnosed conditions, medicati...

Case report: Molecular profiling facilitates the diagnosis of a challenging case of lung cancer with choriocarcinoma features
We present a 35-year female with lung cancer with choriocarcinoma features. Her disease involved the right lower lung, brain, and thoracic lymph nodes. The pathology from brain metastasis was reported as “metastatic choriocarcinoma” (a germ cell tumor) by local pathologists. She initiated carboplatin and etoposide, a regimen for choriocarcinoma. Subsequently, her case was assessed by pathologists from an academic cancer center, who gave the diagnosis of “adenocarcinoma with aberrant expression of β-hCG” and finally pathologists at our hospital, who gave the diagnosis of “poorly differentiated carcinoma with chor...

Case report: A case of high grade serous carcinoma of peritoneal origin
This case report describes an 80-year-old female patient admitted to the emergency department due to abdominal distension, abdominal pain, and hematemesis persisting for three days. Subsequent postoperative pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of peritoneal cancer. The occurrence, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of primary peritoneal cancer (PPC) are presented in detail. PPC is a type of cancer originating from the primary peritoneal mesothelium organization, causing diffuse malignant tumors in the abdominal and pelvic regions. Due to the lack of specific clinical manifestations for this disease, the import...

Urinary incontinence rehabilitation of after radical prostatectomy: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
ConclusionIn general, all treatment methods improve the different stages of functional recovery of the pelvic floor muscles. However, in the long term, there are no significant differences between the treatments. Given the cost-effectiveness, pelvic floor muscle training + routine care + biofeedback + professional therapist–guided treatment + electrical nerve stimulation therapy within 3 months and pelvic floor muscle + routine care after 3 months may be a more economical option to treat urinary incontinence.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=331797, identifier C...

Case report: Solitary mass of the sciatic nerve confirmed as a primary extranodal manifestation of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in a geriatric patient
ConclusionRare PNNSTs, including extranodal manifestations of DLBCL can have similar clinical and radiological diagnostical features as PNSTs. Comprehensive diagnostic workup of contrast-enhancing lesions affecting peripheral nerves including MRI and metabolic imaging are recommended. Discussion in interdisciplinary tumor boards facilitates finding individual treatment approaches. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

TNF- α is a predictive marker in distinguishing myeloproliferative neoplasm and idiopathic erythrocytosis/thrombocytosis: development and validation of a non-invasive diagnostic model
ConclusionThe elevation of serum TNF-α in MPN patients is of diagnostic significance and is correlated with the severity of myelofibrosis. The nomogram incorporating TNF-α with age, PLT count and spleen size presents a noteworthy tool in the preliminary discrimination of MPN patients and those with idiopathic erythrocytosis or thrombocytosis. This highlights the potential of cytokines as biomarkers in hematologic disorders. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)
