Determination of chlorphenesin in cosmetics, a preservative that can affect anti ‐doping test result interpretations
This study developed and validated a liquid chromatography method with diode-array detection to determine the chlorphenesin content in 61 selected personal care products with various functions (e.g., facial care, body cleansing, sun protection, make-up, hairstyling, perfume, and oral cleaning). The analytical method demonstrated fit-for-purpose quantitation and provided good linearity, precision, accuracy, and recovery for analyzing different cosmetic matrices. Among the 27 cosmetics labeled with chlorphenesin, the chlorphenesin concentrations ranged from 0.10 to 2.67  mg/g, with three products showing no detection. None...

Influence of multiple human chorionic gonadotropin administrations on serum and urinary steroid Athlete Biological Passport profiles in males
Extended hCG administration induces changes in the serum and urinary steroidal modules of the Athlete Biological Passport. During and postadministration, major changes were observed in the serum T and A4 levels; however, little to no change was observed in the corresponding T/A4 ratio. The urinary T/E ratio showed a modest increase during administration. Serum T and LH levels were also tracked, and the serum T/LH ratio proved to be a sensitive biomarker for hCG use. AbstractThe Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) is a longitudinal tool used in anti-doping to monitor biological parameters known to change with performance-enha...

Determination of urinary deanol ‐N‐oxide excretion profiles after ingestion of nutritional supplements containing deanol
An analytical approach employing LC –MS/MS was developed to provide first data on urinary levels of deanol-N-oxide at baseline and after the administration of deanol or meclofenoxate in humans. After a single oral dose of deanol or meclofenoxate, considerable increases of the metabolite deanol-N-oxide are observed, reaching cmax levels at 2 –5 h post-administration. Abstract2-(Dimethylamino)ethan-1-ol (Deanol) is a widely produced chemical used by both industry and consumers in a variety of applications. Meclofenoxate, a stimulant classified on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List, metabolizes into deanol and, ...

Synthetic cannabinoids in hair —Prevalence of use in abstinence control programs for driver's license regranting in Germany
Synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) have steadily increased on the drug market but are rarely analyzed in abstinence control programs for driver's license regranting. Between March 2020 and March 2021, hair samples from this collective were retrospectively screened for SCs by liquid chromatography –tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) analysis, and those testing positive were additionally screened by liquid chromatography-high resolution time of flight mass spectrometry (LC-qTOF/MS). AbstractAlthough the use, structural variety, and prevalence of synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) have steadily increased on the drug market, they are...

Rapid detection of 10 benzodiazepines and metabolites in blood and urine using DART ‐MS/MS
An efficient DART-MS/MS method for the detection of 10 BZDs and metabolites in blood and urine was developed and validated. The method was applied to specimens from authentic cases, enabling rapid and accurate qualification and quantification of case specimens. AbstractBenzodiazepines are essential screening targets for common sleeping and sedative drugs used in forensic toxicology. Direct analysis in real-time tandem mass spectrometry was used to rapidly identify 10 benzodiazepines and related metabolites in the blood and urine. The related direct analysis in real-time tandem mass spectrometry parameters were optimized. A...
