Achieving Textbook Outcomes in Colorectal Cancer Surgery Is Associated with Improved Long-Term Survival: Results of the Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Elective colorectal resections result in successful TO for 52.5% of patients. The likelihood of failure to achieve TO is increased in patients with a high ASA score, while minimally invasive surgery is associated with higher TO rates. Patients who fail to achieve successful surgical outcomes experience reduced long-term outcomes.PMID:38592180 | PMC:PMC10931839 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13051304 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Validation of a Tool-Based Visual Anorectal Examination Advanced Simulator for the Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer
This study aims to establish the initial face, content, and construct validity of a tool-based visual anorectal examination advanced simulator model for proctoscopy and rigid sigmoidoscopy. This innovative, highly realistic simulated environment aims to enhance the training of healthcare professionals and improve the efficiency of detecting and diagnosing distal colorectal disease.PMID:38592245 | PMC:PMC10932247 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13051423 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Modified neoadjuvant rectal score as a novel prognostic model for rectal cancer patients who underwent chemoradiotherapy
CONCLUSION: We established a novel prognostic model, for rectal cancer patients that have undergone neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, using a combination of apoptosis-detecting immunohistochemistry and neoadjuvant rectal scores.PMID:38592641 | DOI:10.1007/s10147-024-02520-4 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Re-Do Plastic Reconstruction for Locally Advanced and Recurrent Colorectal Cancer Following a beyond Total Mesorectal Excision (TME) Operation-Key Considerations
This study demonstrated the lack of reporting on re-do reconstruction techniques following repeat exenteration for recurrent CRC. Based on this finding, we conducted a point-by-point discussion of certain key aspects that should be taken into consideration when approaching this patient cohort.PMID:38592018 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13051228 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Stereotactic Navigation-Assisted Laparoscopic Resection of Challenging Low Pelvic Tumors: A Case Series
Conclusions: The application of laparoscopic stereotactic navigation surgery to complex low pelvic tumors is feasible and could impact oncological surgical quality by enabling tumor targeting and ensuring resection margins. Further wider series are needed to confirm stereotactic navigation's impact on challenging low pelvic tumors.PMID:38592109 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13051233 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Panitumumab-Induced Periorbital Dermatitis: A Case Report
Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol. 2024 Apr 3;17:763-767. doi: 10.2147/CCID.S459067. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTPanitumumab is a recombinant, fully humanized immunoglobulin G2 monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It is approved for the first- and second-line treatment of advanced wild-type KRAS colorectal cancer. Although common cutaneous side effects include acneiform dermatitis, folliculitis, and xerosis, ocular toxicities have occasionally been reported. Herein, we report the case of an 81-year-old Thai female with chemorefractory advanced stage sigmoid colon cancer who developed isolated...

Microsatellite Instability Detection in Cancer: A Multiplex qPCR Approach that Obviates the Need for Matching Normal Samples
CONCLUSIONS: This study validates VarTrace as a swift, accurate, and economical assay for MSI detection in samples with low tumor percentages without the need for matching normal DNA. VarTrace's capacity for highly sensitive MSI analysis holds potential for enhancing the efficiency of clinical work flows and broadening the availability of this test.PMID:38581343 | DOI:10.1093/clinchem/hvae045 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Genomic ancestry and cancer among Latin Americans
Clin Transl Oncol. 2024 Apr 6. doi: 10.1007/s12094-024-03415-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLatin American populations, characterized by intricate admixture patterns resulting from the intermingling of ancestries from European, Native American (NA) Asian, and African ancestries which result in a vast and complex genetic landscape, harboring unique combinations of novel variants. This genetic diversity not only poses challenges in traditional population genetics methods but also opens avenues for a deeper understanding of its implications in health. In cancer, the interplay between genetic ancestry, lifestyle factors, and...
