Cost-Effectiveness and the Economics of Genomic Testing and Molecularly Matched Therapies
Surg Oncol Clin N Am. 2024 Apr;33(2):231-242. doi: 10.1016/j.soc.2023.12.010. Epub 2024 Jan 27.ABSTRACTCost-effectiveness analysis of precision oncology can help guide value-driven care. Next-generation sequencing is increasingly cost-efficient over single gene testing because diagnostic algorithms require multiple individual gene tests to determine biomarker status. Matched targeted therapy is often not cost-effective due to the high cost associated with drug treatment. However, genomic profiling can promote cost-effective care by identifying patients who are unlikely to benefit from therapy. Additional applications of ge...

Precision Oncology in Gastrointestinal and Colorectal Cancer Surgery
Surg Oncol Clin N Am. 2024 Apr;33(2):321-341. doi: 10.1016/j.soc.2023.12.007. Epub 2024 Jan 9.ABSTRACTPrecision medicine is used to treat gastrointestinal malignancies including esophageal, gastric, small bowel, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. Cutting-edge assays to detect and treat these cancers are active areas of research and will soon become standard of care. Colorectal cancer is a prime example of precision oncology as disease site is no longer the final determinate of treatment. Here, the authors describe how leveraging an understanding of tumor biology translates to individualized patient care using evidence-bas...

NOS2 Polymorphism in Aspect of Left and Right-Sided Colorectal Cancer
Conclusions: In conclusion, the results support the hypothesis that the SNP rs2297518 of the NOS2 gene influences colorectal cancer development with regard to tumor localization.PMID:38398251 | PMC:PMC10888565 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13040937 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Current Approaches for Monitoring of Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: A Narrative Review
CONCLUSION: In light of growing clinical advances, we present a schematic evidence-based monitoring algorithm that can be easily applied in clinical practice which combines all major monitoring modalities, including noninvasive tools such as IUS and video-capsule endoscopy.PMID:38398321 | PMC:PMC10888591 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13041008 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer: Are Neuroendocrine Tumors or Adenocarcinomas the Culprit? Analysis of the Largest U.S. Cancer Incidence Database, 2001-2020
Conclusions: Our study, covering ~98% of the U.S. population provides the first comparative analysis of early-onset CRC histopathological subtypes, showing that the rate of increase of NETs in young adults is much greater than that of ADC. Given that patients with NETs with malignant behavior can experience significant mortality, our findings are importance, highlighting the rapidly increasing NET incidence in young adults and encouraging early screening that can improve outcomes.PMID:38398411 | PMC:PMC10889361 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13041098 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Paroxysmal Dystonic Posturing Mimicking Nocturnal Leg Cramps as a Presenting Sign in an Infant with DCC Mutation, Callosal Agenesis and Mirror Movements
Conclusions: This study underlines the importance of in-depth genetic investigations in young children with ACC and highlights the need for further detailed analyses of early motor symptoms in infants with DCC mutations.PMID:38398422 | PMC:PMC10889236 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13041109 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Conclusions: Preoperative antibiotic therapy in combination with mechanical bowel preparation seemed to be correlated with a lower SSI rate after colorectal cancer surgery.PMID:38398474 | PMC:PMC10889669 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13041162 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)
