Prediction of transformation in the histopathological growth pattern of colorectal liver metastases after chemotherapy using CT-based radiomics
This study included 181 patients with 298 CRLMs who underwent preoperative contrast-enhanced CT followed by partial hepatectomy between January 2007 and July 2022 at two institutions. HGPs were categorized as pure desmoplastic HGP (pdHGP) or non-pdHGP. The samples were allocated to training, internal validation, and external validation cohorts comprising 153, 65, and 29 CRLMs, respectively. Radiomics analysis was performed on pre-enhanced, arterial phase, portal venous phase (PVP), and fused images. The model was used to predict prechemotherapy HGPs in 112 CRLMs, and HGP transformation was analysed by comparing these findi...

Exosomal non-coding RNAs in colorectal cancer metastasis
Clin Chim Acta. 2024 Feb 26:117849. doi: 10.1016/j.cca.2024.117849. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is a type of gastrointestinal cancer with high morbidity and mortality rates, and is often accompanied by distant metastases. Metastasis is a major cause of shortened survival time and poor treatment outcomes for patients with CRC. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the metastasis of CRC remain unclear. Exosomes are a class of small extracellular vesicles that originate from almost all human cells and can transmit biological information (e.g., nucleic acids, lipids, proteins, and metabolites) ...

Ureter Metastasis From Colorectal Cancer Revealed on 18F-FDG PET/CT
Clin Nucl Med. 2024 Feb 27. doi: 10.1097/RLU.0000000000005127. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe involvement of the ureter as a site of metastasis of colorectal cancer is quite rare. Here we present FDG PET/CT findings of the right ureter metastasis from colon cancer in a patient after colectomy 6 years ago. 18F-FDG PET/CT showed increased 18F-FDG uptake in the right ureter with SUVmax of 4.3. The pathology and immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis of ureter metastasis from colon cancer.PMID:38409759 | DOI:10.1097/RLU.0000000000005127 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Delphi consensus for the third-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: The experts agreed with most of the proposed items on 3L treatment of mCRC, prioritizing therapeutic options that increase survival and preserve QoL, while facilitating the possibility that patients can continue to be treated later.PMID:38411748 | DOI:10.1007/s12094-023-03369-1 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Tumor-derived exosomal ADAM17 promotes pre-metastatic niche formation by enhancing vascular permeability in colorectal cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that exosomal ADAM17 plays a pivotal role in the hematogenous metastasis of CRC. Thus, this protein may serve as a valuable blood-based biomarker and potential drug target for CRC metastasis intervention.PMID:38413999 | PMC:PMC10898123 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-024-02991-3 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer: Are Neuroendocrine Tumors or Adenocarcinomas the Culprit? Analysis of the Largest U.S. Cancer Incidence Database, 2001-2020
Conclusions: Our study, covering ~98% of the U.S. population provides the first comparative analysis of early-onset CRC histopathological subtypes, showing that the rate of increase of NETs in young adults is much greater than that of ADC. Given that patients with NETs with malignant behavior can experience significant mortality, our findings are importance, highlighting the rapidly increasing NET incidence in young adults and encouraging early screening that can improve outcomes.PMID:38398411 | PMC:PMC10889361 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13041098 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)
