Are extra locking bolts or fibular plating more important in extreme nailing of distal tibia fractures? A cadaveric biomechanical analysis
Distal tibia fractures can be treated with intramedullary tibial nailing or plating [1,2]. Nailing may be preferred to plating because of its minimally invasive approach which may decrease operative time and avoid fracture devascularization [3]. Further, nailing may permit earlier weightbearing [4]. However, it can be challenging to achieve acceptable fixation when the fracture location is so distal that it only permits placement of one or two interlocking screws through the distal portion of the nail, and there are concerns for higher rates of malunion in these fractures treated with nails [4]. Mental Health Care Utilization Among Parents of Children With Cancer
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study of privately insured parents, those caring for children with cancer had a higher likelihood of utilizing MH care than other parents. These findings underline the importance of interventions toward targeted counseling and support to better meet MH care needs among parents and caregivers of children with cancer.PMID:38564218 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2024.4531 (Source: Cancer Control)

Factors Affecting Performance on a Screening Tool in Persons with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
This study examined the relationship between performance of the ALS-Cognitive Behavioral Screen (ALS-CBS) and the demographic parameters of sex, education, time post-ALS diagnosis, and severity of symptoms. Data were collected retrospectively from 69 participants seen at the Mayo Clinic. Correlations were conducted on the ALS-CBS total scores and subsection scores and the above listed parameters; t-tests were conducted between participant subgroups. No statistically significant relationships or differences occurred between the ALS-CBS or its subsections and the variables measured with exception of age and the attention sub...

The Relationship Between Self-Efficacy and Functional Capacity Among Discharged Heart Failure Patients in Jordan
CONCLUSION: This study provides baseline data for further research on treatment of HFPs, and the development of evidence-based tailored health interventions to maintain and improve self-efficacy and functional capacity among these service users. Moreover, replicated researches can test the study results considering different methodologies, such as using objective functional capacity tool and longer follow-up periods.PMID:38564456 | DOI:10.1097/DCC.0000000000000633 (Source: Dimensions in Critical Care Nursing)
