Therapeutic management of fibrosis in systemic sclerosis patients - an analysis from the Swiss EUSTAR cohort
CONCLUSION: Overall, in Switzerland, a wide range of medications is prescribed for systemic sclerosis patients. This includes modern, targeted treatments for which randomised controlled clinical trial have been recently reported.PMID:38579324 | DOI:10.57187/s.3630 (Source: Swiss Medical Weekly)

Isolated tricuspid valve surgery for functional tricuspid regurgitation
CONCLUSION: More than half of the patients who underwent isolated TV surgery for functional TR had undergone left-sided valve surgery and had significant heart failure symptoms at the time of surgery. Further studies on the surgical indication for concomitant TV surgery at the time of left-sided valve surgery and the appropriate timing of surgery for isolated functional TR are needed to improve survival.PMID:38580322 | DOI:10.1055/a-2300-6791 (Source: The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon)

Update on cancer predisposition syndromes and surveillance guidelines for childhood brain tumors
Clin Cancer Res. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-4033. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTumors of the central nervous system (CNS) comprise the second most common group of neoplasms in childhood. The incidence of germline predisposition among children with brain tumors continues to grow as our knowledge on disease aetiology increases. Some children with brain tumors may present with non-malignant phenotypic features of specific syndromes (e.g. nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 1 and type 2, DICER1 syndrome, and constitutional mismatch repair deficiency), while others may present with a str...

Assessment of Academic Resilience and its associated factors among Pharmacy Students in Twelve Countries
CONCLUSION: The study offers insights into the factors affecting academic resilience in pharmacy students across several countries. The findings could guide interventions and support activities to improve resilience and academic outcomes.PMID:38574997 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajpe.2024.100693 (Source: American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education)

High-Dose Buprenorphine Initiation in the Management of Opioid Use Disorder in Pregnancy
Obstet Gynecol. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005572. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBuprenorphine is commonly used as a treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). Transition to buprenorphine traditionally has been done using a low-dose initiation regimen due to concerns surrounding precipitated withdrawal. There are increasing data supporting use of a high-dose initiation regimen in the nonpregnant population. This retrospective case series describes six individuals with OUD who underwent high-dose buprenorphine initiation in pregnancy. There were no instances of sedation, respiratory depression, supplemental oxygen...
