Recent Stressful Life Events and Perceived Stress as Serial Mediators of the Association between Adverse Childhood Events and Insomnia
Behav Med. 2024 Apr 18:1-12. doi: 10.1080/08964289.2024.2335175. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInsomnia is common in college students and linked to poorer mental and physical health. There is growing evidence that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) may contribute to insomnia in adulthood. However, beyond the need for additional replication of these findings, there is a need to identify underlying mechanisms that plausibly connect the two experiences. Based on a serial mediation model, the current study examined the role of two theoretically informed mediators: recent stressful life events and perceived stress. A cross-se...

Optimal Method for Assessing Right Ventricular to Pulmonary Arterial Coupling and Subclinical Right Ventricular Dysfunction in Older Aged Healthy Adults: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
The ability of the right ventricle (RV) to adapt to increasing afterload, particularly in diseases such as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)1, is a primary determinant of morbidity and mortality. In the early stages of pulmonary hypertension (PH), cardiac output is maintained through compensatory hypertrophy of the RV chamber to enhance contractility. However, with sustained pressure overload, these maladaptive compensatory mechanisms are insufficient, and the chamber begins to dilate to maintain cardiac output, known as uncoupling of the RV to pulmonary artery (PA) and the onset of clinical heart failure (HF)2,3. (Sou...

Comparison of Limb Loading Characteristics and Subjective Functional Outcomes Between Sexes Following ACLR
CONCLUSION: Individuals approximately five months following ACLR, on average, offloaded their ACLR limb compared to the contralateral limb. Patients' tendency to offload their weight during a squat was influenced by sex. Relationships between limb loading metrics and PROs indicate patients who load their limbs disproportionately have a lower perception in their capability to complete activities of daily living and lower subjective knee function.PMID:38629487 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0534.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

A Structure-Activity Investigation of the Fungal Metabolite (-)-TAN-2483B: Inhibition of Bruton's tyrosine kinase
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 17:e202401051. doi: 10.1002/chem.202401051. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe natural product (-)-TAN-2483B is a fungal secondary metabolite which displays promising anti-cancer and immunomodulatory activity. Our previous syntheses of (-)-TAN-2483B and sidechain analogues uncovered inhibitory activity against Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk), an established drug target for various leukaemia and immunological diseases. A structure-based computational study using ensemble docking and molecular dynamics was performed to determine plausible binding modes for (-)-TAN-2483B and analogues in the Btk binding site...

Lasix for the prevention of de novo postpartum hypertension: A randomized placebo-controlled trial (LAPP Trial)
Birthing people with de novo postpartum hypertensive disorders remain among the highest risk for severe maternal morbidity. Randomized controlled trials demonstrate a benefit to oral loop-diuretics in decreasing postpartum hypertensive morbidity in patients with an antenatal diagnosis of preeclampsia. It is not known whether this same therapy benefits patients at risk for new-onset postpartum hypertension (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)
