Are any teleradiology jobs any good?
I’m only an R1 but I get emails every now and then for open positions and have seen quite a few swing shift teleradiology jobs that seem to pay well and offer 1 on 2 off. I guess my question is, what’s the catch? Their salaries seem in line with daytime salaries/slightly less. Why would someone not want a job like that if they’re reading swing/evening shift for the east coast while living out west? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Clinical paid experience
Hi everyone! I am a non-traditional student who recently graduated with a Comp Sci degree, working a tech job, and has decided to switch to medicine. I am international, so I am still on my student visa and tied to the jobs related to my major. This makes me sad that I can't work as an EMT / CNA / MA, etc.... how am I supposed to get into medical school if I don't do these things? I am starting to volunteer in a hospital + in a hospice in the next few weeks to gain some volunteer... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hello SDN, long time lurker first time poster in this community. Current fellow with about 200k in student loans. Looking at a few jobs (all W2) that are all in decent locations and have a moderate cost of living, so these extraneous factors are all ~equivocal . Your advice is sincerely appreciated. 1. How do most optometrists find jobs?
Do most optometrists get jobs from internal networking? I’m asking because there are very few jobs on Glassdoor and other major job sites. Does this truly reflect the job market? Are you able to work in the geographic area you want or are you held back by job availability? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I'm thinking about working as a rural nocturnist for 3 years after residency to maximize my income and invest heavily. Is this realistic?
Here's my situation: I'm an IMG from Europe on a J1 visa. I started an IM residency at the age of 32 and will finish it at 35. Although I'm a bit older, I have a low amount of student debt (~$40,000). Single, no wife, no kids (although it's something I want in the long-term). I don't want to return to my home country for two years, so I have been thinking about getting a J1-waiver job in an underserved region for 3 years to get a green card. I have been looking at some of these jobs, and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Orthodontist Jobs
Just matched into ortho- very excited! I was wondering how easy it is to find a job post-residency! Not looking to open my own practice, at least right away. Can anyone also give me insight into how I’d look for a job- do you find one on Indeed or are positions by word of mouth? What does your typical work week look like, is there a base pay? Hoping to practice in NY. Thank you 😁 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Working as an Interventional Pain Physician at a VA hospital?
Some positions have opened up for me at VA hospitals as a pain physician. This would be my first job out of training. I know VAs can be bureaucratic and lower volume than non-gov jobs, but certain aspects are attractive, such as definite salary, no production pressure, limited obstacles to offering interventions of my choosing since no prior auth, good benefits and time off. Downsides as far as I can see are CPRS, salary ceiling, slowness and culture of staff, difficulty of moving from lower... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question regarding Letters of Rec from previous work
Hi all, I have a question. I am likely unable to get solid letters of recommendation about 3 years worth of work experience I had while working as a technician. I was working in manufacturing and my managers in 2 jobs during that time disliked me very much. Manufacturing is not a nice line of work and the first company I worked for essentially was an auto parts factory that had abysmal work conditions and management (they basically exploited their workers). I managed to get promoted in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
