Summer EC decision: More Research or a combo of research+clinical
Hello everybody, I wanted to get some advice on what I should focus on this summer in terms of EC’s to build the best application so that I can maximize my chance to get into medical school in 2025 without a gap year if possible. Background: I am a rising junior pre-med student, and I am offered the opportunity to Either (1) work as a 9-week full-time summer research intern for a pain research lab/program (not allowed to take on other jobs) OR (2) continue to work as a part-time research... Switching gap year jobs right after applying?
I’ve been working as a scribe/MA for almost 6 months now and I was recently offered a scribe job at a different clinic that would start at the end of May (so I would have 8 months at my current job, >1000 hours). I really want to take it because my current job is becoming increasingly toxic. I’m always walking on eggshells with my boss and it’s causing me a ton of anxiety every day. This new job will be paying more and seems like a better environment, and it’ll also give me exposure to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Options for Clinical Psychology Work Abroad
Hi all! I'm currently a 5th year clinical psychology Ph.D. student who will be starting my predoctoral internship program this summer (which is a little more research-oriented than average). My wife works remotely and has some interest in us potentially living and working abroad (either remotely with US-based jobs, or employed positions in the new country). I'm wondering if anyone in the SDN psychology community has any advice, suggestions, or resources about how to pursue... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Public notice: stop taking PE jobs
What do all PE practices have in common? They all need employee producers before they can churn and burn the practice to next buyer for that sweet 10x EBITDA multiplier. Ophthalmology is a small field w/ greater than 50% of workforce over 55, and if all young ophthalmologists collectively stuck together and said no to PE jobs, it would be game over. This is already happening to some degree. If young ophthalmologists banded together about tail insurance clauses and asked “partnership... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Purely from a financial perspective, how much more money do pulm/crit attendings roughly make than hospitalists?
Hello! Internal medicine PGY-2 here! I’m trying to decide if I want to apply to pulm/crit fellowships in a few months from now, or if I would prefer to be a hospitalist instead. I’m considering all aspects of this decision, one of which is the financial incentives of both jobs. Of course this decision is not based solely on money, I would never do something like that, but I just don’t know very much about this topic and I’d like to know more. Like, all else being equal, roughly how much... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cardiac Anesthesia job market in Los Angeles
I'm currently finishing up my cardiac fellowship. Due to a recent change in my spouse's job, there's a strong possibility that we are heading to LA. I was wondering if anyone here is able to provide a general overview (i.e. compensation/benefits structure, average earnings, MD only vs. supervision, etc) of the private practice job market for LA. TBH, I'm not really familiar with jobs in southern California, and we haven't even considered moving there until this recent turn of events for my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Alternatives to pharmacy?
In my area I'm not seeing a lot of hospital jobs and I refuse to go into retail. I saw on Indeed Dental Hygeneists make $50/hr. Worth going back to school for two years? lol. Seriously, alternative careers? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When will the gravy train end?
Pharmacist pay and work conditions have gone downhill since 2005 or so. Sure there are the occasional high paying unicorn jobs in CA and similar places that offer annual raises to keep up with inflation, but those are the exception not the rule. For the most part pharmacist pay has been stagnant for the past ten years or so especially compared to inflation these past few years. The pandemic created some opportunities for high pay but that was a black swan event. All basic expenses like... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If not podiatry, what else?
Ive Often thought about leaving for computer science which was my original major in undergrad. recently Though it looks like those types of jobs are experiencing lay offs and people are struggling to find work. other health professions have there pros and cons. The dental program that’s here at my school as well is 100k a year for tuition alone. No I’m not exaggerating. DO program is around 85K a year. so my question to everyone is if they had to choose a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
