Gap year before advanced position
I am a current TY resident, I went unmatched in radiology last year but matched into an advanced radiology position this year which will start July 2024, leaving me with a gap year. I'm unsure of what opportunities would be available for me following my 1 year of TY training. My main goal is to just make some decent money and enjoy the year before getting into the full radiology grind. I have seen urgent care moonlighting suggested but all of the jobs I see online require board... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Freshman PreMed looking for clinical jobs with some schedule flexibility.
Will be starting as a freshman in the fall, my classes will run all day Tuesday and Thursday. Almost every clinical job I can find is full-time, Monday-Friday, usually 8-5:00PM. This is simply impossible with my school schedule yet I can not find anything else. I currently work retail, which allows for flexibility however no clinical experience and is the most mentally draining thing in my life at the moment. The pay for scribes I see is always around $8, which is simply too low. And I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is burnout real during residency? (not trolling)
Is burnout a problem for those people that worked laborious jobs (blue collar/construction/military) before medical school? For sure residency will be mentally and physically exhausting but I feel like there are certain people that are built different and actually can handle these stressors. From what I seen from people that complained the most about long hours and being on-call where most often the lazy students. I mean theses students would complain that leaving at 3pm from a clinical... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Buying a JEEP. Buy or lease (tax insight needed)
Hey amigos. My Jeep is being built. It's awesome. Any of you tax experts that can offer advice - I'm all ears. I'm a 1099 at two jobs. I presently just drive my personal vehicle and deduct mileage. My director says I should "lease" the new vehicle (then buy it at the end) and deduct 100% of the lease payments. She's smart, but says: "I think the law is that you have to drive it 50% or more for work only - ask someone else who knows more." Anyone else know more? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Depressed and wanting to change careers
As I enter my PGY3 year I must say that podiatry was the worst choice I've ever made in my life. I am completing a grueling residency. The work is nonstop. I feel surgically competent in some areas and deficient in others. I have looked at jobs and have been in talks with some people and the offers are all below $150k. I have nearly $300,000 of student loans. I completed 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of podiatry school, and now I am finishing a 3 year residency. In total I have went 11...
