Thoughts on the Match Process?
Hi everyone, I just went through the match process and I absolutely hated it. I think the design of the process only benefits the training sites but at the cost of the applicants. It's just so nerve-wracking, draining, and costly for the applicants. I think it would be much easier for the applicants if we can apply to internships like how you would do for post-docs and jobs. For example, if you are a strong applicant, you may just need to apply to a few places and receive an offer, which... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Masters in Forensic Psych or MSW
Hi all, As someone interested in forensic psych who's pretty dead set on getting their doctorate, I'm just curious what an M.S. in forensic psychology or an being an LCSW would allow you to do in the realm of forensic psychology (i.e., what sorts of jobs you would be able to get)? Comparing a W2 job to a 1099. Looking for advice
Currently looking at 2 jobs one in Oregon (w2) and one in Nevada (1099). Beyond the obvious benefit of not paying state income tax, I'm having difficulty figuring out a great way to compare them financially. It seems that with a 1099 there are some ways to save on taxes as a business owner? While a W2 has advantages due to benefits? Any resources of advice would be helpful thanks! Dental help
I wanted to get some input regarding others' experiences with community dentists. Right now I have 3-4 patients waiting to be cleared or have extractions, some waiting on the order of months. I just had one patient's dentist make sure to let us know he is NOT cleared and that he needs 3 more scalings done before he can start radiation (bizarre). Could just be the area I work in (I work in a rural setting), but it's like pulling teeth to get dentists and oral surgeons to do their jobs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Coding/Statistics Experience Necessary for PhD Programs?
Having gone down the physician path myself, I had no idea how competitive this Clinical Psychology PhD process is (i.e triple digit applications for double digit interviews for 1-4 spots) and definitely realize I lack the intuition I once thought I had about it so I need help. My partner has worked multiple jobs in the area of psychology with a diverse range of clinical experiences at psychology centers, an OK uGPA (she's a bit removed from it though), an above average GRE, and she has... Going Back to School and Job Paths
Hello Everyone, I have a few different potential opportunities and/or paths that I can take for the future and was just wondering what you all think is the better option. My ideal goal so far is to become a teaching professor or adjunct professor while doing some form of clinical work. The main question I have is which field should I go into to potentially teach down the road: psychology or social work? I looked on HigherEdJobs and I found more jobs for psychology than social work. I also... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

palliative care without fellowship
Can psychiatrists do palliative care without fellowship? Does residency training cover the typical work like this. or is it reasonably learnable on the job? Seems like several local hospice jobs have been filled by family med or IM docs without palliative board cert. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Working full time in OTD program?
Hello! I am currently a senior in undergrad wrapping up my last semester before OT school. While in undergrad I was able to work 2 jobs simultaneously before working full time as an RBT, and I am curious as to everyone’s thoughts about whether working full time while going for an OTD is sustainable. I have heard mixed things about working full time while in grad school from both OTs and BCBAs, leading me to make this post. Thanks in advance for the advice! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Moral Injury and Burnout
It is no secret that I think it is pretty feasible to make a lot of money in psychiatry and that I don't lose sleep over midlevel encroachment. But that isn't to say I think everything about the field is good - the problems that bring me to the point of wanting to switch jobs or retire early are entirely different. I think the worst part of psychiatry is that you just have to eat a lot sh$t sometimes. Although actual lawsuits might be rare, the number of extremely stressful things that... Yet Another "First Job After Fellowship Advice" Post
Hi All, First and foremost, this forum has been an amazing resource for my own journey, so thanks in advance for any and all help. I find myself in a situation I can't seem to get answers to elsewhere on these threads. Briefly, I'm looking into jobs for my first year out of fellowship. I am EM trained, and currently plan to a hybrid of locums/per diem ED shifts while supplementing part time pain 2-3d/week. That could easily change in the future, but for now it's what I'm after. I've... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Job outlook in Houston, DFW area
I'll be finishing fellowship in 2024 and will be looking for jobs in the Houston and DFW area given need to relocate closer to spouse's family. Currently in fellowship in major academic medical center on East Coast but will be looking for general pulmonary/critical care positions (academic and clinical) in these areas. Does anyone have a sense of job availability, compensation ranges for academic and clinical positions in these markets? Houston seems to have all of the institutions at TMC... Deferring acceptance for a finance job
I just got accepted to a fully stipended MD/PhD program, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be offered a spot at this school. However, the acceptance came after I had accepted that I wouldn't get into any medical schools this year (it came very late in a cycle where I only got 2 II total). Due to this, I had already applied to finance jobs related to the healthcare sector and signed an offer letter to work at an investment bank. I'm wondering if I can defer my acceptance for a year, work... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
