Changes in temperature in preheated crystalloids at ambient temperatures relevant to a prehospital setting: an experimental simulation study with the application of prehospital treatment of trauma patients suffering from accidental hypothermia
Accidental hypothermia is common in all trauma patients and contributes to the lethal diamond, increasing both morbidity and mortality. In hypotensive shock, fluid resuscitation is recommended using fluids wit... (Source: BMC Emergency Medicine)

Effect of RARC-ERAS nursing program on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing RARC surgery: a retrospective, propensity matching study
J Robot Surg. 2024 Apr 10;18(1):170. doi: 10.1007/s11701-024-01931-9.ABSTRACTCurrently, there is no specific perioperative nursing standard for RARC based on the ERAS concept. This retrospective study investigates to analyze the effect of RARC-ERAS nursing program on VTE and other clinical outcomes in patients undergoing RARC surgery. This retrospective study included 216 patients undergoing RARC surgery From January 1, 2022 to December 30, 2023, and propensity score adjustment analysis was applied. The study compares a control group receiving traditional nursing and an observation group receiving RARC-ERAS nursing program...

Hypothermia effects on neuronal plasticity post spinal cord injury
ConclusionOur results show that the forelimbs SSEP signals from the two groups of injuries with and without hypothermia have statistically significant differences on days 4 and 7. This indicates the neuroprotective effect of early hypothermia and its influences on stimulating further the neuroplasticity within the upper limbs neural network post-SCI. Timely detection of neuroplasticity and identifying the endogenous and exogenous factors have clinical applications in planning a more effective rehabilitation and functional electrical stimulation (FES) interventions in SCI patients. Mild Therapeutic Hypothermia Alleviated Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury via Targeting SLC25A10 to Suppress Mitochondrial Apoptosis
J Cardiovasc Transl Res. 2024 Apr 3. doi: 10.1007/s12265-024-10503-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMyocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MI/RI) is identified as a severe vascular emergency, and the treatment strategy of MI/RI still needs further improvement. The present study aimed to investigate the potential effects of mild therapeutic hypothermia (MTH) on MI/RI and underlying mechanisms. In ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) rats, MTH treatment significantly improved myocardial injury, attenuated myocardial infarction, and inhibited the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. The results of proteomics identified SLC25A10 as the mai...

Umbilical artery eucapnic pH to assess fetal well being
Umbilical artery gas results help obstetricians to assess fetal well being during the course of labor and guide screening decisions on eligibility for therapeutic hypothermia or also know as whole body or head cooling. The accuracy of results, especially base deficit on arterial cord gas analysis, in predicting brain injury is questioned. A novel biomarker specifically calculated for fetal acid-base physiology and response to asphyxia —neonatal eucapnic pH as a marker of neonatal metabolic acidosis—has the potential to be an accurate predictor of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Risk factors for infection and outcomes in infants with neonatal encephalopathy: a cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Infants with NE exposed to risk factors for early-onset infection did not have worse short-term adverse outcomes.IMPACT: Risk factors for early-onset neonatal infection, including rupture of membranes >18 h, maternal group B streptococcus colonization, chorioamnionitis, maternal pyrexia or antepartum antibiotics, were not associated with death or short-term morbidity after cooling for NE. Despite exposure to risk factors for early-onset neonatal infection, infants with NE reached oral feeds earlier and needed fewer anti-seizure medications for a shorter duration than infants with NE but without such risk fa...
