Gestational PBDE concentrations, persistent externalizing, and emerging internalizing behaviors in adolescents: The HOME study
DISCUSSION: Gestational PBDE serum concentrations were associated with self-reported internalizing and externalizing behavior problems in early adolescence. Caregiver-reported externalizing behaviors recognized during childhood remain associated with gestational PBDE concentrations and persist into early adolescence. Internalizing behaviors were less recognized by caregivers.PMID:38663667 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2024.118981 (Source: Environmental Research)

The Effect of Ear Acupressure on Behavioral Problems in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: Ear acupressure induced significant reduction of the behavioral problems of children with ADHD. Further research can evaluate the use and continuity of the effectiveness of this treatment as a complementary treatment in addition to the usual treatments for these children.PMID:38659722 | PMC:PMC11036156 | DOI:10.1089/acu.2023.0028 (Source: Acupuncture in Medicine)

The underlying neuropsychological and neural correlates of the impaired Chinese reading skills in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
AbstractImpaired basic academic skills (e.g., word recognition) are common in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The underlying neuropsychological and neural correlates of impaired Chinese reading skills in children with ADHD have not been substantially explored. Three hundred and two children with ADHD (all medication-na ïve) and 105 healthy controls underwent the Chinese language skill assessment, and 175 also underwent fMRI scans (84 ADHD and 91 controls). Between-group and mediation analyses were applied to explore the interrelationships of the diagnosis of ADHD, cognitive dysfunction, and ...

Effects of Paradoxical Sleep Deprivation on Oxidative Parameters in the Serum and Brain of Mice Submitted to the Animal Model of Hyperglycemia
Behav Brain Res. 2024 Apr 22:115008. doi: 10.1016/j.bbr.2024.115008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present study aimed to investigate the effects of paradoxical sleep deprivation (PSD) on behavioral and oxidative stress parameters in the brain and serum of mice submitted to the animal model of hyperglycemia induced by alloxan, mimicking the main symptom of diabetes mellitus (DM). Adults C57BL/6 male and female mice received an injection of alloxan, and ten days later, the animals were submitted to the PSD for 36hr. The animals' behavioral parameters were evaluated in the open-field test. Oxidative stress parameters [Di...

Prevalence of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among medical students in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia
CONCLUSION: The study demonstrated a higher prevalence of adult ADHD among medical students in the Eastern Province than the reported rates locally and globally. This could be attributed to social and cultural factors, as well as the chosen method for assessing the symptoms of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual items.PMID:38657995 | DOI:10.15537/smj.2024.45.4.20230841 (Source: Saudi Medical Journal)
