COVID-19 Protection Strategies: Lessons Learned About Epidermal Barrier Function and the Significance of Optimized Skin Care
J Drugs Dermatol. 2024 Apr 1;23(4):244-248. doi: 10.36849/JDD.7862.ABSTRACTInitially categorized as primarily a respiratory disease, COVID-19 can involve other organ systems and may have direct skin manifestations, including exanthems, morbilliform eruption, generalized urticaria, or pseudo-chilblains —commonly called “COVID Toes.” Frequent handwashing and prolonged wearing of face masks and shields in efforts to minimize transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID, has given rise to indirect skin manifestations of COVID. “Maskne” and handwashing der...

Skin disorders in women with poor obstetric history: < em > MTHFR < /em > polymorphisms and importance of preconceptional counseling
CONCLUSIONS: The increased prevalence of psoriasis and acrochordons among women with MTHFR deficiency underscores the complex relationship between genetic factors and dermatological health. Our findings emphasized the critical role of MTHFR polymorphisms not only in poor obstetric history but also as significant contributors to skin disorders. This dual association highlights the importance of comprehensive preconception counseling, especially customized for women affected by skin disorders.PMID:38557333 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2337668 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

67. Improving Cutaneous Manifestations of Autoimmune Progesterone Dermatitis with Janus Kinase-Inhibitors
Autoimmune Progesterone Dermatitis (APD) is rare and usually diagnosed in women in their 20s and 30s. The hallmark presentation of APD is monthly cutaneous eruptions (urticaria, eczema, ulcerated oral lesions, targetoid rash, angioedema) occurring 2-10 days before the onset of menstruation; improvement is seen on days 2-3 of menses. Cutaneous mastocytosis (CM) is a rare disorder of pathologic accumulation of mast cells in the skin. It typically presents as multiple yellow-brown papules or plaques, or, less commonly, nodular lesions on the trunk, extremities, or scalp. Cutaneous symptoms include erythema, flushing, localized urticaria, swelling, dermatographism, or blister formation. Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Systemic symptoms can be triggered by temperature changes, exercise, hot baths, emotional stress, or certain medications. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

Impact of Chronic Spontaneous or Inducible Urticaria on Occupational Activity
Acta Derm Venereol. 2024 Mar 29;104:adv36122. doi: 10.2340/actadv.v104.36122.ABSTRACTThe impact of chronic urticaria on work has been scarcely reported, whereas its peak incidence is between the ages of 20 and 40. The aim of this study was to assess the occupational impact of chronic urticaria and its treatment, by combining objective and patient-reported data. A monocentric observational study was performed using questionnaires over a 1-year period from 2021 to 2022 in chronic urticaria patients who were in a period of professional activity and agreed to participate. Of the 88 patients included, 55.7% assessed the occupat...
