Trips Through the Skin: Reviewing Cutaneous Drug Reactions to Psychedelics and Hallucinogens
Dermatitis. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1089/derm.2023.0292. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT Although psychedelic and hallucinogenic substances have gained popularity for therapeutic use, their dermatologic adverse effects are poorly characterized. This review characterizes the cutaneous reactions associated with psychedelic and hallucinogenic drugs. A review of PubMed and Scopus was conducted from the inception of databases to August 31, 2023. Search terms included drug names and classes (cannabis, MDMA, ecstasy, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, psychedelics, hallucinogens, peyote, marijuana, lysergic acid diethylamide, LSD, ke...

Comparative analysis of adverse drug reactions associated with new antiseizure medications from the Korea Adverse Event Reporting System database
CONCLUSION: Hypersensitivity skin reactions and type B effects remained significant ADRs in the new ASMs; however, type A effects were more commonly reported in some ASMs. The pediatric group showed a higher rate of type B effects. Overall, new ASMs should also be used with caution.PMID:38636107 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109784 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Urticarial Vasculitis - A Rare Clinical Presentation Of Hodgkin's Lymphoma
A 49-year-old male was admitted to the intensive care unit in June 2023 for symptoms of severe refractory idiopathic anaphylaxis. His symptoms began with acute diffuse urticaria, which progressed to lip angioedema, wheezing, dyspnea, dizziness, and pre-syncope. At initial evaluation in the emergency department he was hypotensive to 72/52 mm Hg requiring two rounds of intramuscular epinephrine and ultimately an epinephrine drip. These measures resolved his symptoms except for urticaria, for which he received a five day course of 40mg prednisone and 20mg cetirizine twice daily with improvement of his hives. ASTRONOMY Scientists flock to the eclipse Tens of millions in North America turned their specially protected eyes to the skies on 8 April for several minutes of darkness when the Moon blocked the disk of the Sun, casting a shadow across Mexico, 15 U.S. states, and Canada. Researchers and citizen scientists seized the opportunity to study the corona—the wispy, outer layer of the Sun’s atmosphere—from the ground and in eclipse-chasing aircraft. They expected to see loops of plasma and other solar flares because the eclipse coincided with solar maximum, a period of high magnetic activity. Research...

Dermatologic Reactions Following COVID-19 Vaccination: A Case Series
We describe 7 patients with various dermatologic reactions following COVID-19 vaccination, including herpes zoster (HZ) infection, herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO), herpes labialis, and urticaria. Although the reactions described here may be related to COVID-19 vaccination, continued vaccination is recommended, as it is the most effective way to protect against serious COVID-19 infection.PMID:38593110 | DOI:10.12788/cutis.0966 (Source: Herpes)

Aten Primaria. 2024 Apr 6;56(7):102922. doi: 10.1016/j.aprim.2024.102922. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe care of migrant patients includes initial screening and lifelong monitoring, highlighting the importance of preventing and tracking chronic, communicable and non-communicable diseases. The prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and obesity varies by ethnicity, influenced by genetic factors, lifestyle, and socio-economic status. Preventive measures, health promotion, and risk factor identification are crucial. Chronic communicable diseases may manifest years after transmission, underscoring the n...
