Asthma and allergy screening in elite football athletes: is it worth it?
Exercise is one of the main triggers of asthma symptoms, potentially prompting patients to limit or even avoid it. Also, it may predispose or exacerbate other allergic conditions, such as allergic rhinitis, urticaria or anaphylaxis. The impact of allergy on the quality of life of the general population has been well described, and, in professional athletes, it also has potential implications on competing performance 1,2. Levels of serum inflammatory cytokines and their correlations with disease severity in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria
CONCLUSIONS: IL-4, IL-17, and IL-31 showed the strongest correlation with the severity of CSU, which may be attributed to their involvement in immune, inflammatory, and pruritic reactions, exacerbating the disease condition.PMID:38533368 | PMC:PMC10962375 | DOI:10.5114/ada.2024.135922 (Source: Advances in Dermatology and Allergology)
