Treating rare tumors with liver transplantation
Curr Opin Organ Transplant. 2023 Oct 19. doi: 10.1097/MOT.0000000000001118. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: The success of liver transplantation (LT) in treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has resulted in interest in LT for other oncologic conditions. Here, we discuss the role of LT for rare oncologic indications including metastatic gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs), hepatic epitheliod hemangioendothelioma (HEHE), fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FLC), and hepatic angiosarcoma (HAS).RECENT FINDINGS: Conditions reviewed have been documented indications for LT i...

New kids on the block: FOS and FOSB gene
FOS and FOSB proto-oncogens are involved in a wide variety of tumourigenic processes. FOS and FOSB gene rearrangements are observed in epithelioid haemangioma, pseudomyogenic haemangioendothelioma, osteoid osteoma/osteoblastoma/cementoblastoma and proliferative myositis/fasciitis. In this review, we provide an overview of FOS and FOSB, including their functions and the differences between lesions with known FOS/FOSB gene rearrangements. Additionally, we discuss the use of FOS/FOSB immunohistochemistry as a diagnostic tool for these lesions. (Source: Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Abdominal ultrasonography identified an irregular hypoechoic area within the right lobe of the liver. While a subsequent enhanced CT examination disclosed a well-defined lesion exhibiting internal focal calcification and delayed heterogeneous enhancement. Subsequently, she underwent surgical resection, and postoperative pathology revealed areas of epith...
