Cerebral Embolism and MINOCA Secondary to Left Atrial Myxoma after Occlusion of Atrial Septal Defect by Amplatzer Occluder: A Case Report
Heart Surg Forum. 2024 Jan 9;27(1):E006-E013. doi: 10.59958/hsf.5803.ABSTRACTPrimary heart tumors are rare, with atrial myxomas being the most common type. Atrial myxomas can lead to embolisms, heart obstruction, and systemic symptoms. Herein, we report a case of 72-year-old woman who presented with a left atrial myxoma at the atrial septal defect occluder, a new acute cerebral infarction, and MINOCA (myocardial infarction with no obstructive coronary atherosclerosis). Left atrial myxoma is a common primary cardiac tumor; however, left atrial myxomas arising after percutaneous atrial septal defect occlusion are rare. Addit...

Right Atrium Primary Cardiac Lymphoma Causing Heart Failure
Conclusion Cardiac tumors present with a variety of symptoms and are best evaluated by echocardiogram, computed tomography angiography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Tissue diagnosis is necessary. Although primary cardiac lymphoma is rare, long-term survival after chemotherapy and rituximab is superior to other cardiac malignancies. Association of Plasma Creatinine Phosphokinase Elevation and a History of Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy in Recipients of Heart Transplant
Plasma creatinine phosphokinase (CPK) elevation is frequent after heart transplantation. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that this CPK elevation is related to idiopathic cardiomyopathy as primary cardiac disease. We included 203 patients who survived>1 year after heart transplantation. Plasma CPK was measured every 4 months during a 15.1 ± 7.7-year follow-up. In univariate analysis, CPK elevation was significantly associated with age at transplantation, length of follow-up, treatment with everolimus, and idiopathic cardiomyopathy as primary cardiac disease. Advances in understanding of cardiac sodium channel structure/function and their relation to disease pathogenesis and treatment
The cardiac voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.5 plays a critical role in maintaining normal cardiac excitability. Nav1.5, the primary cardiac Nav α-subunit, has been extensively implicated in the etiology of arrhythmias. Indeed, dysfunctions in Nav1.5 due to congenital or acquired defects have been associated with a wide range of pathologic manifestations, including sinus nodal dysfunction, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and heart failu re. Management Of A High-risk Rare Primary Cardiac Lymphoma
Cardiac lymphomas are rare and can be fatal if not diagnosed and treated appropriately. They are commonly diffuse large B cell lymphomas (DLBCL) presenting with secondary cardiac involvement. Primary cardiac lymphomas are rarer with an incidence rate of 0.25%. Patients typically have heart failure symptoms, which can confound diagnosis with more common etiologies. Masses are often identified by imaging, but further modalities and tissue biopsy are required to identify the etiology before pursuing treatment. (Source: Journal of Cardiac Failure)

Long noncoding RNA lncPostn links TGF- β and p53 signaling pathways to transcriptional regulation of cardiac fibrosis
Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2023 Dec 25. doi: 10.1152/ajpcell.00515.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiac fibroblasts are essential for the homeostasis of the extracellular matrix whose remodeling in many cardiovascular diseases leads to fibrosis. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are associated with cardiac pathologies, but their functions in cardiac fibroblasts and contributions to cardiac fibrosis remain unclear. Here, we aimed to identify fibroblast-enriched lncRNAs essential in myocardial infarction (MI)-induced fibrosis, and explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for their functions. Global lncRNA profiling wa...
