Primary Cardiac Fibroblast Cell Culture: Methodological Considerations for Physiologically Relevant Conditions
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Aug 25. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00224.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary cardiac fibroblast (CF) tissue culture is a necessary tool for interrogating specific signaling mechanisms that dictate the phenotypic heterogeneity observed in vivo in different disease states. Traditional approaches that utilize tissue culture plastic and nutrient rich medium have been shown to induce CF activation and therefore alter CF subpopulation composition. This shift away from in vivo phenotypes complicate interpretation of results through the lens of the animal model. As the field works to identi...

Clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of a primary cardiac tumor: A case report
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with malignant tumor, most of them had local invasion or had distant metastasis when the diagnosis was clear, and only conservative management could be done. Moreover, the prognosis of malignant tumor is poor, and the pathological morphology is diverse. The causes of death are due to widespread tumor metastasis, refractory heart failure, and various arrhythmias.PMID:37596232 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.07.099 (Source: Asian Journal of Surgery)

Multimodality treatment of primary cardiac angiosarcoma: A systematic literature review
Primary cardiac neoplasms are rare entities with an incidence of 1.38 per 100,000 and occur more than 30 times less frequent than metastatic disease of the heart [1,2]. In adults, approximately one fourth of the primary cardiac tumors are malignant, with 75% – 95% of them being sarcomas [3–5]. Angiosarcoma has been recognized as a common primary cardiac sarcoma (PCS) histology arising preferentially in the right atrium between the third and the fifth decade of life [2–8]. The fact that angiosarcomas tend to be bulky, infiltrate the cardiac muscle, and metastasize early (especially to the lungs) in conjunction with no...

ATF3 affects myocardial fibrosis remodeling after myocardial infarction by regulating autophagy and its mechanism of action
CONCLUSION: ATF3 can regulate the proliferation of CFs and collagen production by affecting autophagy, thus affecting myocardial fibrosis remodeling after MI.PMID:37572799 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147705 (Source: Gene)

Maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women with heart disease with single evaluation vs. semi-structured evaluation by a cardio-obstetric team
CONCLUSIONS: In pregnant women with heart disease, an SSF compared with a USF by a cardio-obstetric team did not show statistically significant differences in cardiovascular, obstetric, and neonatal outcomes. However, patients with SSF had a significantly higher risk of adverse outcomes due to the mWHO and CARPREG-II scales. This result suggests that the SSF achieves at least equal outcomes despite the higher risk of adverse events that patients in this group had.PMID:37553104 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.22000057 (Source: Archivos de Cardiologia de Mexico)

Surgical treatment of primary cardiac tumors in children
ConclusionsPrimary cardiac tumors in children are mostly benign. Surgery is effective, but the timing of surgery depends on the patient's condition. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Arrhythmias in patients with X-linked myotubular myopathy
We report two clinical cases of XLMTM that started with severe sinus bradycardia or auriculoventricular block from the first days of life, with pathologic 24-hours Holter monitoring in both cases. A primary cardiac affection was excluded by electrophysiological studies and normal heart rate was recovered with proper respiratory support.DISCUSSION: These cases with sever bradyarrhythmia in a well know pathology such the XLMTM represents a nuance on the usual differential diagnostics of congenital myopathies.PMID:37466134 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7703.2022222 (Source: Revista de Neurologia)

Diosmetin-7-O- β-D-glucopyranoside suppresses endothelial-mesenchymal transformation through endoplasmic reticulum stress in cardiac fibrosis
In this study, molecular docking results showed that diosmetin-7-O-glucoside bound well to ER stress and Src pathway markers. Diosmetin-7-O-glucoside suppressed cardiac fibrosis induced by isoprenaline (ISO) and reduced the levels of EndMT, ER stress in mice heart. Primary cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) were induced by transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) to perform EndMT. Diosmetin-7-O-glucoside could effectively regulate EndMT and diminish the accumulation of collagen I and collagen III. We also showed that the tube formation in CMECs was restored, and the capacity of migration was partially inhibite...
