Grenada Heart Project–Community Health ActioN to EncouraGe healthy BEhaviors (GHP-CHANGE): A randomized control peer group–based lifestyle intervention
ConclusionsThe GHP-CHANGE trial showed that a peer-support lifestyle intervention program was feasible; however, it did not demonstrate a significant improvement in the FBS as compared to the control group. Further studies should assess the effects of low-cost lifestyle interventions in LMICs. (Source: American Heart Journal)

The None in Three Victim Responsiveness Assessment (Ni3: VRA): a new outcome measure for intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention programs
Journal of Children's Services, Ahead of Print. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and validate the None in Three Victim Responsiveness Assessment (Ni3: VRA) examining affective and cognitive responsiveness toward victims of intimate partner violence. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected at two time points in a sample of 359 young people from Barbados and Grenada (56.27 percent female; M age=12.73 years). Findings Confirmatory factor analysis results indicated that the Ni3: VRA scores are best captured by a two-factor solution, including affective and cognitive dimensions. A test-retest correlati...

Woman to Woman: Implementation of a Cervical Cancer Education Training Program for Grenadian Lay Health Advisors
AbstractThe reduction in cervical cancer (CC) in developed countries, due mainly to Pap testing, has not filtered down to Caribbean countries including Grenada despite accessible screening. This is attributed to a lack of knowledge and low screening. Researchers in low resource settings successfully trained lay health advisors (LHAs), using theory-based, culturally relevant interventions to reverse this trend. The use of LHAs in Grenada was not documented in the literature; therefore, the purpose of this study was to implement and evaluate a culturally relevant curriculum in an effort to educate Grenadian LHAs on CC. Using...

Assessment of circulating Dengue serotypes in Grenada, West Indies
Background: Dengue remains prevalent within the Caribbean islands, including Grenada, where the tropical environment is suitable for the proliferation of its primary vector, the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The lack of an effective vaccine, lack of lasting immunity, and abundant natural reservoirs contribute to its continued transmission and health burden. The most effective methods to prevent the spread of the virus and to aid in the recovery of the patient are early detection and control of the vector. Identifying Areas at Greatest Risk for Recent Zika Virus Importation — New York City, 2016
In this study, we used logistic regression15 to predict weekly nowcasts16 throughout the summer of 2016 of census tracts at greatest risk of recent ZIKV importation. Nowcast results were used to inform geographically targeted activities, including performing public education, enrolling additional healthcare facilities in a sentinel surveillance system for detecting local ZIKV transmission, interpreting syndromic surveillance signals suggesting possible ZIKV-like illness, and, when reviewed in conjunction with mosquito surveillance data, informing control of Aedes spp. mosquitoes and placement of traps for continued surveil...

Role of Rats (Rattus norvegicus) in the Epidemiology of Toxoplasma gondii Infection in Grenada, West Indies.
Abstract Rodents are known to be reservoir hosts of Toxoplasma gondii infection for other animals, including cats and pigs. From February to July, 2017, 167 rats (Rattus norvegicus) were trapped in Grenada and serum, heart, skeletal muscle and brain were examined for T. gondii infection by serological examination (Modified agglutination test, MAT, 1:25) for T. gondii antibodies and for viable parasites by bioassay in mice. Samples of heart, skeletal muscle and brain of all rats were bioassayed in Swiss Webster (SW) outbred albino mice and interferon gamma gene knockout (KO) mice. Toxoplasma gondii was isol...

The HIV/AIDS epidemic in Grenada: A cross-sectional approach used to measure response variation regarding sexual behavior and health depending on the method of data collection
The objective of this study was to determine the association between high-risk sexual behavior in relation to HIV transmission and prevalence among different groups of people in Grenada. In addition, this study intends to increase the involvement and improved services by Grenadian chapter of the Caribbean HIV/AIDS Partnership (GrenCHAP). A cross-sectional study was conducted over a 2-month period in Grenada, West Indies, to measure the responsive nature of different populations to an inquiry about HIV and sexual behavior.
