Assessment of circulating Dengue serotypes in Grenada, West Indies

Background: Dengue remains prevalent within the Caribbean islands, including Grenada, where the tropical environment is suitable for the proliferation of its primary vector, the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The lack of an effective vaccine, lack of lasting immunity, and abundant natural reservoirs contribute to its continued transmission and health burden. The most effective methods to prevent the spread of the virus and to aid in the recovery of the patient are early detection and control of the vector.
