Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2024 Mar 30;46(4):2991-3004. doi: 10.3390/cimb46040187.ABSTRACTFrankincense is produced by Boswellia trees, which can be found throughout the Middle East and parts of Africa and Asia. Boswellia serrata extract has been shown to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Periodontitis is an oral chronic inflammatory disease that affects nearly half of the US population. We investigated the antimicrobial effects of B. serrata extract on two oral pathogens associated with periodontitis. Using the minimum inhibitory concentration and crystal violet staining methods, we demonstrated th...

Fusobacterium nucleatum induces oxaliplatin resistance by inhibiting ferroptosis through E-cadherin/ β-catenin/GPX4 axis in colorectal cancer
Free Radic Biol Med. 2024 Apr 22:S0891-5849(24)00405-2. doi: 10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2024.04.226. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFusobacterium (F.) nucleatum is a carcinogenesis microbiota in colorectal cancer (CRC). Growing evidence shows that F. nucleatum contributes to chemoresistance. Ferroptosis is reported to restore the susceptibility of resistant cells to chemotherapy. However, the role of gut microbiota affecting ferroptosis in chemoresistance remains unclear. Here, we examined the CRC tissues of patients using 16S rRNA sequencing to investigate the possible connection between gut microbiota dysbiosis and the relap...

Fusobacterium nucleatum carcinogenesis and drug delivery interventions
This article presents a comprehensive review of microbial communities especially F. nucleatum in tumor tissue, exploring their roles and underlying mechanisms in tumor development, treatment, and prevention. When the tumor-associated F. nucleatum is killed, the host immune response is activated to recognize tumor cells. Bacteria epitopes restricted by the host antigens, can be identified for future anti-bacteria/tumor vaccine development.PMID:38643839 | DOI:10.1016/j.addr.2024.115319 (Source: Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews)
