Interobserver variability in thyroid ultrasound
ConclusionsInterobserver agreement was acceptable for the identification of nodules requiring cytologic study using various classification systems. However, limited concordance was observed in risk stratification and many ultrasonographic characteristics of the nodules. (Source: Endocrine)

Should there be a paradigm shift for the evaluation of isthmic thyroid nodules?
ConclusionWe recommend nodule localization has to be considered an additional risk factor when performing a Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy for the increased malignancy risk in this localization. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)

Clinical Challenge: Acute Onset of Chest Pain and Dyspnea
The purpose of this Clinical Challenge is to educate nurse practitioners who are employed in the acute care setting on the diagnosis and management of a spontaneous pneumothorax. A spontaneous pneumothorax affects males more than females and tends to impact the adolescent male population. Evidence-based guidelines from the American College of Chest Physicians and the British Thoracic Society are reviewed. Treatment modalities for a spontaneous pneumothorax such as needle aspiration, thoracostomy tube placement, video-assisted thoracostomy, and open thoracotomy are discussed. Cytomorphological traits of fine-needle aspirates of hyalinizing trabecular tumor of the thyroid gland: A brief report
CONCLUSION: HTT is a rare thyroid tumor with non-specific clinical manifestations. It can be misinterpreted as papillary thyroid carcinoma by FNAC. However, its cytomorphological traits are helpful in the diagnosis. In combination with FNAC, immunohistochemistry, and molecular testing, HTT can be accurately diagnosed.PMID:38358201 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_405_22 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Rare diagnosis of an Epstein-Barr virus-positive extracavitary/solid variant of primary effusion lymphoma by duodenal endoscopic biopsy in a human immunodeficiency virus-seronegative and immunocompetent patient: A case report
We report the case of a 50-year-old HIV-seronegative male patient who presented with icterus and cholestasis. Computed tomography revealed a 80 × 56 mm abdominal mass. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy was performed from the celiac lymph nodes and pancreatic head, under endoscopic ultrasonography guidance. A duodenal endoscopic biopsy was taken from the infiltration area, and a core biopsy was performed for the portal hilar mass. All biopsies showed similar cytohistopathological features. LCA-positive lymphoid neoplasia had a plasmacytoid/anaplastic morphology and null cell phenotype. HHV-8 and Epstein-Barr virus-encoded smal...

Simpson Katia Nones Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is often the only source of tumor tissue from patients with advanced, inoperable lung cancer. EBUS-TBNA aspirates are used for the diagnosis, staging, and genomic testing to inform therapy options. Here we extracted DNA and RNA from 220 EBUS-TBNA asp...

Risk of malignancy in Thy3 thyroid nodules
Conclusion. Our rates of malignancy in Thy3 cytology are similar to the literature. These rates should be explained clearly to the patient during the preoperative counselling. Future advances in biomarkers technology may help to improve the preoperative diagnostic accuracy and reduce the rate of unnecessary thyroid surgery.PMID:38345495 | DOI:10.2478/enr-2024-0003 (Source: Endocrine Regulations)

Brain abscess caused by < em > Morganella morganii < /em > : A case report and review of the literature
CONCLUSION: We report this case to create awareness among neurosurgeons and microbiologists that M. morganii, even though uncommon, is a cause of cerebral brain abscess. Prompt surgical management and appropriate antimicrobial therapy is the treatment of choice.PMID:38344080 | PMC:PMC10858772 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_759_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)
